DISCLAIMER: UNPOPULAR WH40K OPINION!!! READ THE ENTIRE PASSAGE FIRST BEFORE REPLYING!!!

This is the biggest risk I've ever done so... here goes nothing.

Wow... I've seen the answer you've given but the response I got is mostly well, either common or redundant. Most have already been said by many people I've seen on the internet. Needless to say, I'm quite disappointed with the answers. Either because 1). Anti-T'au comments 2). Not good in-depth answers, or 3). just redundant answers told time and time again already.

Then again, I shouldn't be surprised since 2/3 of WattPad's Warhammer Stories mostly features Imperium stories with little to no other factions, so of course, this website will have more Imperium fans than Xeno ones.

So while I appreciate you guys answering I think there's a more in-depth idea than just "Pathetic Space Weeb Communist", mind-controlling ethereals (though that one is from the Point of View of the Imperial Xeno-biologist) or making humans infertile (The Imperium commits war crimes like it's Tuesday in their million worlds, even sterilizing their population, so why does Tau sterilizing humans tick people off? Even Mind Control seems the lesser evil compared to other things considered. Talk about double standards -_-).

Here's my answer:
The true Dark and Grim nature of T'au doesn't come from the fact that T'au makes humans infertile, mass brainwashing, or pathetic because of No MeLeE.

No, it's the mere fact that they're too small to be a threat, too small to even change anything. They're the unwilling observer, the naive child facing the harsh world.

Take a look at their empire, they're only 100 worlds large. They're the new kids on the block that has yet to see the horrible reality, they're the naive race that wants to preach the "Greater Good '' and genuinely believes in unity. Yes, I'm fully aware of the Grimdark nature GW tried to attempt because fans got whiny over Tau being too good in the grim dark setting. So yes, I'm aware of the re-education camps, mind-control (though that one is still debatable since it is from the Point-of-View of the Imperials), second-class citizenry, so and so forth, yet most other factions doing what I'd call "WAR CRIMES, GOOD TIMES'' on many occasions that it's not common in T'au because they view it as barbaric, as ironic the last part sounds especially with the things I've just mentioned earlier.

So why is T'au judged like this? Compared to every other faction in 40k, they're nice in the standards of 40k. Put them in Mass Effect, Star Trek, Star Wars, or any sci-fi setting and you have a villain faction in your hands. (Don't reply yet! Read the rest of the paragraphs first!)

Except for the Farsight Enclave, they're genuine good guys, Lawfully Good. No Ethereal or human sterilization there, and even a more loose caste system (Literally, one of the Earth Caste Engineers can use a Battlesuit like it's no problem because Chadsight allows it).

But that's beside the point, the mere fact that they have 100 worlds in total, means they're not even close to even fighting in a meat grinder of warfare hence using modern military tactics by fighting their enemies from afar. Sure they could hold out for so long, but it wouldn't be enough because they LACK THE NUMBERS to even conquer the Galaxy or even win an all-out war against the Imperium.

So why is that? Why is the Tau Empire so small with only 100 worlds? Why couldn't they have 500 worlds like Ultramar? Why are they introduced this way? Well, I think it's intentional during their creation, I believe this stems from the mere fact that when the Tau were first introduced, they were supposed to be the actual genuine Good Guy faction, before Farsight. They are the idealistic, somewhat naive, and optimistic race who are supposed to be the only pure good in the grim dark setting. They were given fewer worlds because they are meant to be the noble faction of 40k.

If GW kept the original concept of the Good Guy Faction, it would make sense why the T'au has fewer worlds; they're meant to be the dwindling light in the darkness. They're meant to symbolize that all kinds of good are outnumbered by unjustifiable horror, where ends justify the means. Overall, their Grimdark nature comes from the fact they're so small, and insignificant, they're POWERLESS to even change the setting. Saving a couple of human lives or planets wouldn't change the fact that the Galaxy is still in a constant state of war, nor is trying to improve the lives of those individuals wouldn't change anything!

Even with the grim darkness, (well more like Grimderp) of the T'au resorting to violence if their efforts to assimilate other races diplomatically fail, or setting up concentration camps and forced sterilization programs for races who resist, are still relatively "good guys" in the standards of 40k. (Don't get angry at this paragraph! Just continue reading first!)

If you ask me, I'd like it more if they stayed as an idealistic and optimistic faction in the grim dark future as they are supposed to be. Hell, even if sudden changes cause them to be grim, they are still considered "good guys" in 40k standards.

I don't expect anyone to agree with me on this because it's... T'au and 40k, but what do you guys think? Do you think the T'au Empire in its entirety should have remained as the genuine Good Guys of 40k as their original creation was meant to be, just to make the setting grimmer than it usually is? What are your thoughts? (Disclaimer: I want genuine thoughts or answers to this! I would love what you think! Thank you!).
