Pete was talking, but his words were quiet and distant, my amusing day dreams clouded my head. I was awoken by Pete's elbow colliding into my side. I released an "Ow!" And I blushed at my voice crack while Lindsey and Pete giggled their asses off, teasing me. I rolled my eyes and looked down at my feet to hide my conspicuous embarrassment. "You guys are so immature." I groaned.
I snapped my head up when I ran into someone's shoulder harshly my eyes widened when something fell out of his hands and smashed into the floor. I saw as pieces of shiny metal scattered all over the floor.
"Oh no!" A skinny kid with pale skin and a jaw line sharp enough to cut your finger on, exclaimed then bent down to pick the small individual pieces up. I realized then it was some kind of school project.
"Oh shit! I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed. "What is it?" I felt myself ask aloud then picked up the base and held it in my arms. The kid threw the parts he picked up into a near by trash can.
"Y-yeah... it was my science project." He mumbled as he stared at the parts in my hand and sighed. "It's unfixable-"
"I'm so sorry!" I tried but he just held his hand up to my face to silence me.
"It's fine. I didn't try too hard anyway. I figured some idiot would fuck it up today anyway." He muttered simply then he turned on his heels and left, leaving me with a broken mystery in my arms.
"Um okay?" I said even though the dude was long gone. I heard Pete snort from behind me then felt him place a hand on my shoulder.
"Dude, you need to watch where you're going." Pete spoke, stifling a laugh and completely flushed with red.
"Fuck off."
"You know, I'm surprised. Usually that kid doesn't say much to people. You just spoke to like the most quietest kid in school." Lindsey thought aloud.
"Oh, well he only spoke a little. Is that weird or something? He kinda seemed like a jerk." I shrugged, my opinion is based on the fact he indirectly called me an idiot. Though, his tone of voice was nervous and repressed.
"Not really. He's pretty normal. I mean, minus the asshole part." Pete added.
"He doesn't talk to people much, but when he does it's rude. Can you blame him? He's a very socially lost kinda guy. Like you in a way." Lindsey shrugged.
I laughed, "Yeah, but I try to not be a total dick." Trying not to be offended knowing it was pointless.
"Well you failed!" Pete gave me a playful shove and I retaliated by doing the same in his direction.
"You really shouldn't be talkin' Pete, considering you're so full of yourself." Lindsey added with a amused smirk.
Pete scoffed, "I have no idea what your talking about babe." He winked and swear Lindsey and I almost simultaneously hurled.
"Don't call me that, dickwad." Lindsey hissed with an annoyed tone.
Pete was about to reply with some douchebag reply when I cut in. "Guys." I mutter, ceasing their argument.
Lindsey sighed and I could tell she was fed up once again.
Pete temporarily stopped walking with is to go mingle with some friends leaving the two of us to wait for him further up the hall.
"Why do you hate it when Pete calls you stuff like that? I don't think he meant any harm."
"You don't get it Frank. I feel like he's mocking our relationship. W-we used to date, but I eventually had to break up with him." She shook her head and leaned back against the blue lockers.
"Why does that bother you if you broke up with him?"
"I'll admit, what we had wasn't anything special, but I cared about him and I still do. He's my friend and the stuff he does just aggravates me from time to time."
Their relationship didn't last long and had very little depth, but it seemed real to Lindsey which is sad because it was nothing more than a hook up to Pete. Well, he's never said that to me, but that's the vibe I get from the way he acts around her. He's over it and she is not, despite how many times she claims she is.
"Stuff he does? Like you explained before." I contemplated aloud, putting two and two together.
I could never get this type of talk with Pete. It's not how we work. Lindsey and I are different, I could listen to her all day. At first I wasn't sure what to think about her, but we're warming up to each other.
"Pete and I are no saints, we've got problems. I've done stuff I'm not proud of, but Pete is on a whole other level. He doesn't know when when the party's over and the Monday begins. You know what I mean?"
It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that Lindsey isn't proud of her behavior. "Yeah.... I didn't know you got caught up in stuff like that too." She gave me a look and I didn't want to offend her so I added, "You just seem so collected at school."
"I'm a hot mess Frank. Not like Pete though. When we were dating it got to a point where it bothered me constantly. There wasn't a time when Pete wasn't wasted or high. After we broke up he slowed down and I really appropriated it." A small smile formed on her lips as she thought. "The way he acted had consequences."
"Like that guy who wanted money from Pete earlier today?" I asked, catching on.
She nodded, and our conversation was at its end as Pete approached us.
"What are you guys talking about?" He asked, with that big smile and irritatingly  hyper energy radiating off of him.
"How we're gonna be late to class because of you. Let's go."
