It seemed like hours had passed before Mimi spoke.
"So, I'm wondering, why does Mr. Cipher have you two here?" She leaned in as if to get some juicy gossip.
"Well, he wants me to agree to a stupid deal, and Pacifica was just with me when he brought me in." I shrugged.
"I see..." She raised an eyebrow. "And that deal would be...?"
"None of your business is what it would be." I glared at her.
"Hmmm...may I at least ask how you got your name?" As I rolled my eyes she added, "Dipper is such a peculiar name, especially for a girl..."
I tensed, then slowly replied. "I was named for my birthmark." I figured I might as well tell her that, it wouldn't matter once we got out of here.
"Oh, were you?" Mimi seemed all the more interested. "Can I see?"
"Um..." I raised an eyebrow. "You do realize my hand would go right through me, right?"
"Oh, dear." Mimi gave a strange smile. "Guardians have...special privileges. We can interact with anyone here."
"That's nice." I shrugged.
"Tell me where it is, darling!" She beamed at me.
"Why?" I looked at her, wondering why it mattered.
"Darling, I'm just interested!" Mimi laughed a tinkling laugh, which was really annoying to be completely honest.
"Fine, geez." I muttered. "It's on my forehead."
Mimi curiously lifted my bangs (though I was still amazed she could) and inspected my forehead. "How peculiar!" She exclaimed in delight, dropping my bangs back down and moving back. "Don't tell Mr. Cipher," She whispered. "But I miss the constellations."
"Why can't I tell him?" I asked, perplexed.
"Why, it's against the rules for guardians to wish to be home!" She gasped as if this was supposed to be basic knowledge for everyone. "We'd be tortured!"
I suddenly realized why Caitlyn was so withdrawn. If Bill found out that she wanted to go home, she be "tortured". That must be something really bad.
"I see..." I nodded, then Mimi immediately started speaking again.
"Oh, I still think Dipper is a rather peculiar girl's name though..." She cocked her head to the side. "However did you get the name?"
I tensed and gritted my teeth. I didn't want to be on this subject, so I simply muttered, "It's not supposed to be a girl's name."
"I'm confused." Mimi looked, indeed, utterly confused.
"I bet you are, but drop the subject!" Pacifica spoke up for the first time in a while. "Dipper is extremely sensitive about this!"
I smiled gratefully at her, but Mimi still looked confused.
"Why?" She asked. "I was just-"
She was cut off by the sudden darkening of the world. Caitlyn appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
"Mimi, your time's up." She told her. "I take over from here."
"Of course, dearie!" Mimi exclaimed, smiling as she floated away, still confused.
"What won't you tell her?" Caitlyn raised an eyebrow at me.
"Huh?" I was as perplexed as Mimi.
"She's never confused unless someone won't tell her something." Caitlyn gave me a I'm-more-trustworthy-tell-me sort of look.
"Geez, leave her alone!" Pacifica glared at Caitlyn.
"Okay, okay." Caitlyn backed away, then rubbed her hands together, grinning. "So are we breaking out or what?"
"We're what?" Pacifica looked at me.
"Caitlyn wants to go as much as we do. She's gonna help us." I told her, and she nodded.
"Only a guardian can even break through the outer force field." Caitlyn told us. "An alarm will go off as soon as I do. Then we go as fast as possible. We head to your place. Get someone to help us find where Bill keeps the bodies. Get home."
"Got it." I gritted my teeth. "We'll go to my house, I want to freak out Mabel with a sock again."
"Mabel?" Caitlyn asked at the same find Pacifica said, "Again?"
"She's my twin sister." I told Caitlyn, then turned to Pacifica. "Long story."
"Let's go." Caitlyn said.
We floated slowly upwards, no one really noticing. It was Caitlyn's shift, and she was helping us, so there was no guard. We reached a barely noticeable force field that was really just a shimmer in the air.
"Alright." Caitlyn grinned. "Get ready to run."
She threw a punch at the force field, which shattered, raining almost invisible pieces onto the toys below. An alarm did go off, an ear-piercing banshee-like screech, and we did run. We flew upwards as fast as possible. And faster. And faster. And...
The alarm stopped. I looked down. We were still in the mindscape, but we weren't in the lost and found, just floating above it.
"Let's go!" Caitlyn called as she turned to me. "Lead us to your house."
I grinned.
We were out.
((This story will have VERY long chapters starting at the last one. I hope you don't mind, this is just cool.))
