Elvira hadn't exactly wanted to leave Xavier's studio, but Wednesday had stormed back in and interrupted their moment, reminding her that they had a house to go find. Xavier gave them directions on how to get there, and soon Elvira found herself staring at the gate that both Wednesday and Xavier had drawn. That reminded her that she needed to ask Xavier about the dreams he was having. She would be lying if she said she wasn't worried about him.
"Yeah, this is the place," Elvira commented, as Wednesday held her sketch up to compare. They walked forward and noticed that the lock was undone. Somebody had been there recently. They pushed the gate opened and walked up the dirt path towards the rundown house. They made their way up onto the old porch and peered in the front door.
Wednesday was about to walk in, when Elvira grabbed her hand to stop her. That was when Wednesday also noticed that there was someone walking towards the door on the inside. The two bolted to find a binding spot, before they were spotted. Elvira frowned as she watched the mayor walk out of the house. What was he doing there?
"I need a distraction," Wednesday told Thing, who immediately obliged.
"Sheriff, pick up your damn phone, it's Noble," they heard the mayor say, his phone pressed to his ear. "Listen, I might have figured out who's behind all of this." Thing tossed a rock at the mayor, which made him turn around, as Wednesday led Elvira behind the mayor's car. "It's a long shot, so I'm going to have to lay it out for you. We'll do it over pie a the Weathervane, just like the old days. See you soon."
Elvira and Wednesday quickly got into the mayor's truck, ducking down as the mayor got in the car and drove off. They stayed silent as he drove back to Jericho, parking near the Weathervane for his pie appointment with Sheriff Galpin. Only when the mayor got out, and began to cross the road, did they peek their heads out.
That was when a car plowed into the mayor, startling both of them. They quickly climbed out of the trunk as the sheriff ran towards the mayor, the two Addams cousins standing in front of him, the sheriff looking at them in frustration.
The ambulance soon arrived, and Elvira watched them take the mayor to the hospital from inside the Weathervane. She was sitting next to Wednesday, and across from the sheriff, who ran a hand down his face.
"He's alive, barely," he reported. "I'll take you two back after I get your statements."
"We already gave them to your deputy," Wednesday reminded him. "Blue Cadillac with no license plates."
"Yeah, I know," the sheriff said, as he pulled out a voice recorder. He started it and put it in front of the two "I want a better one. What were you two doing in the back of the mayor's SUV?"
"We saw him coming out of the Gates mansion," Elvira told him.
"The Gates mansion. What the hell were you doing there?" He asked them.
"House hunting," Wednesday commented. The sheriff rolled his eyes, so she continued. "I overheard the voicemail he left you. I was intrigued."
"Back when the mayor was sheriff, he used to have a lot of wild theories on cases that he couldn't solve. We'd dissect them over pie, sitting right back there in that booth. Most of the time they went nowhere," Sheriff Galpin said.
"Call me old-fashioned, but when someone is run over on their way to give the police key information, it usually means they were onto something," Wednesday told him.
"All signs point to the Gates family, and that house," Elvira added. The sheriff looked between the two skeptically.
"The Gates family?" He asked incredulously. "How? They're all dead. Every last one of them."
