Chapter 24

"How is she doing?" Molly asked helping Charlie set up Teddy's room while Alexa tried to get the boy to sleep in the garden

"Coping she claims but she doesn't sleep and I can barely get her to eat anything, I'm worried about her mum" Charlie sighed it had been 2 weeks since the war ended and no matter what he tried he couldn't get her to sleep or eat she would just lay awake all night whenever there was food she'd take a bite or two and then push her plate away

"The best you can do is just to be there for her" Molly gave her son a weak smile she had tried to distract herself from the hole she was in from losing Fred by going to spend a day with each of her kids that lived out of the house on rotation going to check on George every night but being at the manor with Alexa and Charlie brought more sorrow then good it was like all the light in Alexa's eyes had been turned off she had barely spoken a word terrified of putting down Teddy fearing she would lose him too he was always in her line of sight

"Come on" Charlie smiled holding his hand out for Alexa to take

"Why?" She asked looking away from the sleeping infant in the pram and up at her husband

"Food shop your not getting out of it this time"

"I don't fell like it"

"Well you're going so get your pretty little bum in the car"

"What are we doing here?" Alexa asked when Charlie pulled into the cemetery 

"You need to say what you need to say to them you need to get it out bottling it up isn't good for you, it's not good for any marriage and it's not good for Teddy you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of him and right now taking care of yourself means getting it out" Charlie said hoping that it would help her to get everthing she wanted to say out 

"You'll stay with him?" She asked looking back at the still sleeping Teddy

"Yes now go" He smiled watching as she gathered courage and left the car

"Hey mum and dad it's Lex I'm not really sure what I'm doing here Charlie seems to think it's what I need that I've been bottling up what I've been feeling and maybe that's true now that I say it out loud I guess I'm mad at you for both going for abandoning us and I know it wasn't your fault I just miss you so much and your not here to watch Teddy grow up or do all the things with him you did with me, but he's okay he's sleeping like it's his job but then he's a month old what else is he going to do? I'll make sure he know everything about you and why you're not here so you don't have to worry about us we'll be okay"

"The tickle monster is gonna get you" Charlie laughed chasing the now 2 year old Teddy around the house

"No running in the kitchen" Alexa yelled nearly falling over the 2 year old that ran behind her while she was cooking

"Help Lexa help" Teddy laughed out of breath 

"Merlin Charlie he can barely breathe give him a break" She chuckled lifting Teddy up on the counter

"We're playing" Charlie smiled catching his breath 

"Yeah well no more playing for today"

"Why not?" Teddy pouted

"Because it's almost dinner time and then it's bedtime for you"

"But I'm not tired"

"Maybe not right now but you will be you always get tired after dinner and we're eating late today so you'll be even more tired when bedtime comes"
