It was the week after and it was Monday. At some point in the middle of English class Aubrey the girl in front of her passed her a note.
It's Monday, meet me at my motorcycle?"
Ally smiled and looked up at Griffin. He wasn't looking back but she knew he knew she was looking at him.
I'll meet you there.
Later that day, after Ally had finished packing her bag, she walked to the parking lot where she usually found Griffin's bike.
"Hey." He said, tossing his helmet to her.
"Hi, how was your day?" Ally asked, catching it and sliding it on.
Griffin laughed, "You're making small talk with me?"
Ally shrugged her shoulders, "Are we going or not?"
"We're going." And with that, they got on his motorcycle and he took her to her therapist and then went to his place.
Ally could never get over his bedroom. She was fascinated with lying on her back on his bed, with her feet on the wall, staring at all the moments in frames. Tonight, she was doing that and Griffin was leaning on the bed, sitting on the ground.
"Have you ever been in love Griff?" Ally asked with curiosity.
'Griff' was a nickname Ally came up with, and Griffin didn't seem to mind so it kind of just stuck. She could hear him stop typing their rough draft.
'Why do you ask?"
"This picture." Ally said, taking a picture off the wall. She lied on her stomach, her face next to Griffon's and held it out for him to see.
It was a picture of a girl. she was around their age and she was laughing. It had been taken at the perfect moment. Her eyes were almost shut and her hair was blowing in the wind. the light was at a perfect angle too.
"I figured that you had to be in love to take this. You would have to know her to know when the timing would be right." Ally said, when Griffin hadn't responded.
"She was my first love." Griffin finally said.
"And where is she now?" Ally asked, careful with the words she used.
"She moved far away. Too far away for me to follow." Griffin said, his voice holding sadness.
Ally nodded, sitting up and putting it back onto its spot. Griffon continued to type and Ally continued to have her feet on the wall. Ally's phone then chimed and it was a text from Ashton, giving details about her party. It also said to ask Griffin to come. Ally sighed and turned her phone off.
"Why the sigh?" Griffin asked.
"My friend Ashton wanted to know if you wanted to come to a party she's having this weekend." Ally said, she just wanted to get it over with.
Griffin turned his head to the side as if he was actually considering this.
"Will you be there?" He asked.
"Of course." Ally said, surprised by his question.
"Then yeah, I'll go." Griffin said, going back to typing.
Ashton would be beside herself with this news. She was just texting her back when Griffin asked her a question,
"Have you ever been in love?" It sounded poetic in his voice.
"I thought I was, but I don't really think so." Ally said, thinking about it for a while.
Griffin nodded his head. He then looked at his watch and realized what time it was.
"We better get you home Ally, it's getting to dinner time." he said, standing up.
"Okay. If we must." Ally said, sitting up.
Griffin held out his hands and Ally took them. Then they were standing. Griffin opened his mouth to say something, but looked conflicted as if he didn't know if he should.
"Instead we could run away." He said.
Ally smiled, "You could show me L.A. and we could walk along the beaches."
"I would show you the best ice cream shops and we could live a little there." He continued.
"We could see if the Artic Monkeys are playing and we could see them in concert." Ally said, smiling even more. Griffin gave her a surprised look for remembering what he said to her when he had ran after her.
"I would take you to the beach and teach you how to surf."
Now it was Ally's turn to look surprised, "You know how to surf?"
"Yeah." Griffin said, smiling now because Ally's was contagious.
Leaning in closer Ally said, "You're just full of surprises Griffin Parker." And then she was twirling out of his grasp and down the hallway to go home. She hadn't looked back, but if she did, she would've seen Griffin staring at her. Falling in love.
