One night C.C started noticing his lamp was off in the middle of the night however knowing that he himself turned it on before going to bed.
He stood awake one night to see who was behind the act. He finally managed to see who did it, but the Nightmares knew he was awake and they started attacking him. He then grabbed an emergency flashlight from his drawer and pointed it at the Nightmares, causing them to disappear.
Soon the lamp was thrown away due to it being destroyed by the Nightmares when they first attacked C.C.
Spoiler alert, C.C was just sleepwalking the whole time through a nightmare, which you guessed it — is because of Michael's foxy mask.
