A week later

Today was my first day at the new job! It wasn't too far from nana just downtown on the main streets. This break has great but I need a something to do with my life along with getting some money

I put on a pair of baggy jeans and paired it with a light sweater. It was pretty chilly outside for august but the sweater was very thin so I wouldn't be too hot. I head a car pull up and assumed Luke was here so I sprinted downstairs saying bye to nana.

The door bell rang and I quickly opened the door. Expecting to see Luke I was met with Walter

"Good morning beautiful" he greeted trying to step inside. I put my foot out fast not wanting  him to enter the house

"Walter... what a nice surprise" I said looking around for Luke's car

"Can I come in?" he asked as if he didn't notice my foot at the door preventing him entering.

I looked back at Walter "no actually, I'm about to head to work and nana doesn't want any visitors right now" I explained pushing him out towards his car.

Luke pulled up and I thanked god for his timing

"Oh, do you need a ride?" he asked

"Nope! My ride is over there" I pointed to Luke stepping out the car. Walter looked behind and scoffed watching Luke walk over.

"Are you sure... I mean remember what I told-"

"I think she'll be fine Walter" Luke interrupted grabbing my arm bringing me closer to his side. Walter watched our interaction and his face changed from a happy smile to an anger glare

"Well Luke... Evelyn can speak for herself" he spitted stepping closer. I stood in-between both men beginning to freak out. I wasn't exactly sure where the deep tension came from but I just wanted to go to the work

"Ok, enough" I said pushing both of them back. I grabbed Lukes arm and dragged us to his car "Nice to see you but I have get to work Walter" I yelled hoping in the car

Luke started the car staring at Walter with a smirk. I rolled my eyes these men were acting like teenagers trying to one up each other.

"That was unnecessary" I said as we drove away from nana house

"Are you friends with him?" Luke asked in an iririted tone. I wouldn't consider us friends, Walter was more so someone who had a crush on me and I was just playing along

"No, we just went on one date" I mumbled not really proud of that night. He talked about himself the whole time then talked about everyone in town... mainly Luke

"You went on a date with that fool" he laughed. We've grown to create a pretty mural friendship since he came over a lot and I was home everyday we ended up chatting especially since Landon and him stayed over for dinner most nights

"Don't laugh! He helped me find nana's house and was pretty charming" I protested

"If you find that charming then I fear for you darling" I smiled at the nickname he's been calling me lately. I started to realize where Landon got his humor from Luke is normally quiet but once you get him to talk he is a complete jokester.

"So what do you do for work?" he asked driving through the woods

"I work in interior design. Basically help people's dreams come to life and decorate houses" I replied. Back home in the city I focused more on high end places but when my boss mentioned an opening in Tennessee i jumped at the opportunity

"Thats pretty cool... similar to what I do" he responded. Technically he was right expect I focused more on indoor designs and have only worked in apartments or house in Chicago. Tennessee was a different type of real estate

"It is I guess" I giggled. The radio played some country music and I was low-key enjoying it... I mean it wasn't no Drake or Nicki but I liked it

"Ever listen to this song" Luke asked turning the music up

"No, lol" I'm more of a R&B fan country music was new to me

Luke laughed at me "I gotta take you to a pub. Get you comfortable to the southern style"

I swear his accent gets hotter and hotter every time he spoke, it was a lot thicker than everyone in town. "Walter told me you're not from here?" I asked wanting to get to know him a bit more

Luke gripped the wheel tightly. Maybe I hit a nerve brining up Walter...

"Why is Walter talking about my business" he grumbled

"Well... I asked about you and he happened to mention that you moved here" I told him honestly

"So you're listening to that crook tell you bout me. What else he say, huh?" Luke looked at me with so much hate and I felt like crying. I didn't mean to upset him I just wanted to get my own information from him not Walter

"It's not like that Luke!" I yelled back

"Then what is it? You're going around asking bout me to some dirty pig" he spitted as we pulled up to my building. Tears started to water in my eyes. I don't understand his sudden hostility he could have just not answered the question.

I quickly opened the door and ran out slamming it behind me. I didn't appreciate the way he spoke to me I've been nothing but nice and asked a simple question. That mans temper was going to get the best of him one day and he would end up all alone soon
