I woke up to an empty bed, a cold one at that. I turned over, finding the sheets empty and the door cracked, allowing the noise of chatter to enter the room.

Is Daniel out there? Hopefully.

I scrambled out of the cold sheets and my feet padded on the floor as I followed the voices. I entered the kitchen to find my parents, brother, and Daniel talking while sipping on fresh coffee.

"Morning sweetie!" My mum all but screamed. I growled in response, too tired from my lack of sleep to deal with her nonsense.

"What a ball of sunshine she is." I heard my father chuckle as I found my way towards the coffee mug cupboard.

After fixing myself a cup of coffee, I leant against the counter and let the warm substance glide down my throat.

"Better drink up sweetie, there is a lot to get done for the banquet this afternoon."

Dan and I were on lantern duty, stringing them along the patio. He had to reach up the tall ones, and eventually became in charge of it all together as I was too short.

My mom eventually put me to work when she saw me watching Dan's slender form bend to hang the decorations.

"Hun, set up the long table along this wall. Put a table cloth down and then some bowls. I will fill those later."

I groaned but did as commanded, apologizing to Daniel for the inconvenience of working all day.

When the pastel table cloth was set, I managed to fit platters and empty bowls in an organized way.

Just in time too, "Jade, why don't you and Daniel go get ready? I have the rest for now."

"Yeah sure thing mum, C'mon Danny." I said gratefully, grabbing onto Dan's wrist and dragging him away from the undesired chores.

After my shower, I quickly pulled on a towel before going into my room. I peeked my head into the room, finding Dan rummaging through his suitcase. No doubt looking for something to wear.

"I think you should wear something like what you arrived in." I spoke up, causing him to jump slightly. "Oh the shower is open, so you can go in there while I get dressed."

He nodded and pulled a few articles of clothing into his grasp. "See ya."

Once he exited, I quickly entered the room and rid myself of the towel. It took me a while to finally decide on an outfit, partly because I wanted to look decent enough for Daniel. Something I would never admit to anyone.

I pulled on a matching pair of underwear, relishing in the freedom I had before I would be stuck in a dress's confines.

Just as I was about to pull the light colored dress over my head, the sound of the door opening caused me to halt.

Before I could turn around I could here a embarrassed yelp and the door slam shut. I turned quickly, face like a tomato.

Who saw my backside? Was it Dan? Oh god please don't let it be Dan.

I quickly continued pulling on my clothes, letting my hair go naturally wavy as I applied light makeup. I pinned back my somewhat bangs and did a quick look over in the mirror.

Gonna have to do. Even if I look like a rotten cow.

A knock on the door pulled me out of my thought, "Come in!" I yelled.

In came a rather clean looking Dan. He wore the same outfit before, except he adorned white converse. His hair looked tamed, still large, but tamed.

His cheeks were tinted red as he caught me staring, and I could also tell he was a bit flustered. So it must've been him who opened the door.

I blushed, and turned back to the mirror and adjusting my dress.

"You look really nice, darling."

"I'm flattered, you look very nice yourself." I mumbled, not believing his blatant lie.

"Thanks," he muttered, scratching the hair on the nape of his neck.

"Welcome." I smiled, turning towards him.

He smiled back, causing a tingling sensation to rush through my abdomen. A sudden urge came over me, and I rushed over to him and wrapped my arms around his middle.

"You okay?" He asked, wrapping his arms around me.

"Just wanna say thank you, thank you for being my friend. I don't deserve you."

He didn't reply, only squeezed me tight before letting go all but my hand.

"C'mon beautiful you have guests to greet."

i feel like this is too fluffy sometimes.. oops.
