Downstairs, Avrora and Sayumi were left by themselves. Hana and Mora went upstairs to clean up and Yasu was hanging out with his teammates.
There was a certain tension Sayumi felt between them. She noticed it after the comment she made about Avrora's popularity. In hindsight, Sayumi shouldn't have said anything and she usually doesn't say things like that. Blame it on the alcohol for messing up her filter for what she says out loud.
"I'm sorry about the popularity comment." Sayumi ducked her head. "I didn't mean anything negative."
Avrora's shoulders raised and lowered, "It's okay. Your comment didn't bother me. I just haven't had the best past with popularity."
Sayumi gave her an open look. Ready to listen even if that's all Avrora wanted was an ear to talk to.
"I'll get us refills and you find a place to sit down and talk." Avrora sidestepped and laughed.
Of the many couches in the house, Sayumi found an empty spot in one of the side sitting rooms. The spot was just big enough for the two omegas to squeeze into. Sayumi let Avrora sit against the arm of the couch so the couple on the other end didn't bump her.
Avrora handed Sayumi her drink and sat down. "I'm serious about what you said, it's no big deal."
The more alcohol she drank, the more her accent sounded.
"Do you want to talk about your past?" Sayumi cleared her throat, "Only if you want to."
"In Russia, I was popular for all the wrong reasons." Avrora rolled her eyes. "Everyone knew me because I looked foreign or because of my brother. He fought anyone and everyone he could at school so he left a mark on our family name. Everyone though I was a trouble maker, too. And a mean girl."
Sayumi could see why people would think she's a mean girl at first. Her face isn't openly friendly, not in the same way Sayumi is always either smiling or bright eyed. Upon first impression, Avrora does seem to be stuck up but once she speaks she's cool and friendly.
She continued telling her story, "I had a lot of friends because people wanted something from me. They were all fake." The way she spoke was unbothered, but under the calm exterior she's still hurt. "And it didn't matter that I was born in Russia and grew up using the language and had the same accent. I looked different so they treated me different."
A strike through Sayumi's heart. She knew exactly what that felt like. "I'm sorry they treated you different. I get that, too. I was born and raised here but people still act surprised when I speak the language fluently. They ask where I'm from or if I'm a tourist."
"What's your story?"
For a while, Sayumi crush receded to the back of her mind and instead of looking at Avrora romantically, she just focused on their newfound friendship. They are connecting on a deeper level.
The blonde twisted her hair around her finger and tossed it over her shoulder. "My story is a lot. Really... messy."
Avrora took a sip of her drink, "We have time."
On a stranger's couch during a loud and rowdy party, they were learning more and more about each other. Neither omega realized they had so much in common.
"My birth mom was from Italy, she moved here after an exchange program or something. She died when I was two." Sayumi pictured Angelica's face and sighed. "For a few years my bio dad kept me around, I say that because he didn't take care of me for shit." Her voice was bitter with disgust, but more because she hated people who were like that. She never felt unwanted because of him though, because she didn't care for him and her parents adopted her. They wanted her more than anything and it made her feel loved. "Turns out he murdered her and now he's in prison."
