With Mora homesick, the school day was much quieter for Hana. Possibly even boring without the high-energy, rambling omega, if not for hanging out with Sanae's company.
Sayumi and Avrora weren't around during lunch or after school as they practiced their ballet routine together. Yasu was off on his own like usual, avoiding everyone at lunch and in the halls. The day after Mora's heat started, Hana found Yasu to ask about Mora. He didn't look too happy about being at school as he was on edge, protective alpha and all. She let him be after that.
Which left Hana and Sanae time to spend together.
At first, Hana thought Sanae didn't want her around. Once they realized it would only be the two of them for the next couple of days until the weekend, they twiddled, unsure what to do.
Then Sanae spoke up and they began talking about classes, then other topics Hana wanted to but couldn't usually talk about. Deeper topics like global warming and if humans have souls. Things Hana considered intellectual to talk about because of the brain power it takes to keep the conversation going. It's very different from the usual fashion and food talk she has with Mora on a daily.
Hana realized how nice it was to hang out with Sanae. School became relaxing without Mora. In the nicest way possible, she could be a lot. Hana often had to keep her from getting into trouble or watch out for the crazy schemes she got herself in trouble with.
"Thanks for helping me with my English homework," Hana said as she sat back at her desk.
Sanae sat next to her, translation book in hand. "No problem. I needed practice, too. I have a hard time with the grammar structure."
"That's the worst!" Hana laughed.
School ended almost half an hour ago. They were alone in the classroom, fellow students gone to their clubs or home.
Sanae tapped her pencil, "Thanks for helping me with geography. I can finally remember where Bolivia is."
"And remember, Bolivia and Belgium are on two different continents."
Sanae grimaced. Being good at reading and writing, she expected to be better at remembering country names and locations.
"Are you headed to club?" Hana asked. "I can walk you."
"It's canceled today. I'm going home." Sanae flipped through her homework.
"I should get home soon. I'm babysitting the younger kids tonight." She didn't look forward to watching over her brother and the others. They all out-energized her and Sayumi, especially little Juria. They have no choice as it's part of their punishment; all of the adults are headed out for the night.
Sanae's shoulders sank. She didn't want the day to end. It's Friday and by Monday, Mora would most likely be back and Sanae wouldn't be able to hang out with Hana by herself as much. She'd miss having Hana's calming, cool nature for herself. The alpha's wholesomeness reminded her why she had a crush on Hana in the first place.
"Can I copy your math notes? I missed information about graphing equations." Sanae hoped she would agree.
"Of course," Hana handed over her notebook.
Sanae already had notes about graphing equations written down from the other day. She knew how to graph well, but it was the only thing she could think of to make Hana stay. Sanae mindlessly copied the notes into her notebook, handwriting poor and missing words because she listened to Hana talking.
"Watching any tv shows lately?" Hana knew some of their taste in entertainment was similar.
"Medical shows." Sanae's pencil stopped moving. "And documentaries about penguins— Kiku likes them."
