A Yasu and Sayumi chapter, featuring Kaiya
Saturday
Sayumi waited by the window. She was dressed in a bright plaid sundress with matching ribbons in her hair. It's one of her favorite outfits she picked out a while ago when she went spring shopping with Mora. The dress fit cinched at the waist, the bottom half fanned out just above her knees. Made her look both cute and summery.
To deviate from her usual wavy hair, she curled it. It was a lengthy process, wrapping sections of blonde hair around the curling iron and holding it until they stayed. Years ago, Kiyoko was the one to teach her how to curl her hair. The older omega sat her and Hana down and showed them different ways to style their hair. Although Kiyoko still helped her with the hairspray because Sayumi misses or sprays her eyes.
Today is the day she's going to hang out with Yasu. She's excited to get out of the house for something other than school or helping her parents grocery shop. It's a nice summer day and while they are going to be inside for most of it, walking from place to place will be enjoyable. They may even get to sit outside while they eat lunch.
She realized after the fact, she'd gotten ready a little early. She was so excited she forgot Yasu was going to pick her up at two. The part she's most looking forward to is talking about their shared hobbies— reading.
Sayumi always felt close to Yasu not because they grew up together, or because he's her best friend's twin, but because they have so much in common. Yasu likes to listen to her and take an interest in what she says. He lets her talk things out when she's upset, more than Mora does as she's a bit more selfish when it comes to feelings. Sayumi likes to be an ear for Yasu, too, and he often says many things she agrees with. She also enjoys his humor, he doesn't think he's funny but he naturally makes her laugh without even trying.
To pass the time, she made a list of books to look for and that she had enough money for said books.
Now, Yasu will show up any minute and they can make their way to the bus station. Yasu suggested the bus because it would be faster and Sayumi was glad because she often got the train system confused.
She doodled in her planner as she waited. When she resets her schedule every weekend, she draws small things in the margins. This time it's sunshine and flowers.
"What are you doing?" Kaiya stopped next to Sayumi on her way from the kitchen. She sipped a cup of chocolate milk, "Are you waiting to be picked up for a date?"
"No," Sayumi hid her pink cheeks by resting her face in her hands and propping her elbows on the window sill. "I'm not going on a date. I'm going to the bookstore with Yasu."
"Just you two?" Kaiya sipped her milk. "Sounds like a date."
"We're just hanging out. It's no different than usual."
Kaiya shrugged and continued upstairs.
Sayumi huffed. What did Kaiya know?
The doorbell rang and she jumped. All that time waiting by the window and she missed him.
Sayumi smoothed out her dress before opening the door. "Hey." She smiled.
"Hey." He smiled right back. He's almost glad his temptation to bring her a flower failed because he would have fumbled his words worse than he is now. "Wo— Are you ready to go?"
He wondered why he had to be so embarrassed around her when they were alone. When they were younger, especially before middle school, there wasn't a problem. Sayumi is easy going and easy to be around, so why did he have to freak out so much?
