[The episode opens to a hospital room. The windowsill has a heart-shaped balloon and some get well soon cards on it. We then see Pearl sitting on a hospital bed in a gown. Darrow is at her bedside and a doctor is holding a stethoscope on her back.]
Doctor: Okay, take a big breath in for me, Pearl.
[Pearl takes a deep breath.]
Doctor: Ooh, that was a big one.
Pearl: (*she whispers to Darrow*) Can you ask him- (inhale) If I can go home?
Darrow: Do you think we can go home soon, Doctor?
Doctor: (*he writes some notes down on a clipboard*) We might just keep you in for another night, Pearl. Just to keep an eye on you.
[The doctor leaves and Pearl curls up in bed.]
Pearl: I wanna go home...
Darrow: (*he sighs and rubs her back*) I know, kiddo. Me too.
Pearl: It's not fair...
Darrow: Yeah, I guess it isn't. But here we are.
[Suddenly, the tablet sounds with a notification.]
Darrow: (*he looks at the tablet*) Oh, look. Dad sent us a message. (*he opens the message*) It's a video.
Pearl: Can I push play?
Darrow: Yeah, go on.
[Darrow lets Pearl press play. The shot changes to show the tablet from Pearl's perspective. A title card appears on the tablet screen.]
Dolly: [voiceover] This story is called Bumpy and the Wise Old Oracle.
[The tablet cuts to a blurry shot of Dolly and she's wearing white gloves. The camera zooms back, going in and out of focus as it adjusts automatically. Dolly is standing in front of the Meriwether house.]
Dolly: Hi! I'm Dakota.
[Cut to the hospital.]
Pearl: It's Dolly!
Darrow: Yeah!
Pearl: (*she giggles*)
Darrow: Why is she wearing white gloves?
[Cut to the story.]
Dolly: [voiceover] Once, there was a young lady called Dakota.
[Cut to the hospital.]
Pearl: (*she giggles again*) Dakota!
[Cut to the tablet. The camera zooms in until the video fills the frame.]
Dolly: [voiceover] What Dakota wanted more than anything in the world was a puppy!
"Dakota": I really want a puppy!
[The scene changes to the playroom. Lips, also wearing white gloves, is sitting behind the counter of her toy produce stand. Dolly enters, carrying a toy basket. Both of them are staring at the camera and smiling unnaturally. Dolly bumps into the stand as she walks in.]
Dolly: [voiceover] All day, she would say the same thing.
"Shopkeeper": (*in a monotone voice, he places toy carrots on the counter*) Here's... your carrots... Dakota.
"Dakota": These carrots are nice, but what I really want is my very own... (*camera zooms in*) Puppy.
"Shopkeeper": (*he's staring at the wall*) Maybe you should wish upon a star!
"Dakota": Okay.
[Star wipe effect. The scene changes to Dolly in front of a blue sheet with stars with a star Christmas ornament hanging from a string.]
