I walked back to lunch and found my friends getting ready to leave for D.A.D.A. I went to Defense Against the Dark Arts with them and Blake. I was as anxious as everyone else to find out how Lockhart was. I knew Hermione had a school girl crush on him but I didn't. A lot of the older girls seemed totally infatuated with him and Hermione was no exception. She had read each of his books several times and knew everything about him; perhaps more about him than he knew about himself.

Once we got to class Hermione dragged us to the front row to sit. With a lot of groaning we all sat down. Hermione was to my right and Blake was to my left sitting next to Seamus. The two of them had really bonded over the past year.

Gilderoy Lockhart strolled into the room 2 minutes late and said, "Hello there, I am your new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. I can now add teacher and leader to my long list of accomplishments including being a well known author, a fierce adventurer and 5 time winner of Witch's Weekly's best smile award. Not that I'm bragging of course but it is something I'm very proud of."

All the girls were staring at him intently as the guys groaned about how pathetic and girly this guy was. I would've killed to have been in an older class for this day as all the girl's boyfriends watched their girlfriends swoon over some celebrity teacher.

He started to walk around the room handing out a paper. I say walk but what he did was more like strut around the classroom. A paper appeared in front of me and it said Exam at the top. I read over some of the questions. Some of them were so detailed and required such an exact answer that I was confused. All of the questions were about him like; what is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color or what is Gilderoy Lockhart's one true desire. I scoffed at the paper and gave him my attention to explain.

Once all the papers were distributed he said, "Well I think it's always a good idea that you know your teacher so we are going to see who knows their teacher the best and who read their books before school started. The person with the most correct answers will win this autographed picture of me. You may begin."

I was still baffled so I looked around the room to see what everyone else was doing. A lot of the girls were already diligently working on their exam but all of the guys were looking around at each other looking puzzled.

The rest of the period I worked to finish as much as I could by guessing. I had read all my school books before I went to Hogwarts so I knew a couple of the easy ones but some of them I didn't even remember the books mentioning.

When he came around to collect them he looked down at mine with disgust. I just rolled my eyes at Harry who suffered the same fate. When he collected Hermione's he looked down at her and beamed. She blushed, a deep crimson color and looked down.

He went up to his desk and quickly threw away all the ones that evidently didn't know what they were saying. There were about 10 papers left on his desk and he flipped through them quickly then picked one up and stood up.

"I am disappointed in some of you. Some of you did remarkably well but today's winner is Miss Hermione Granger. She remembered that my favorite color is in fact lilac not peach although my room is peach colored. So she shall be awarded her prize; this autographed picture of yours truly."

Hermione was grinning from ear to ear as he handed it to her. She thanked him several times before he dismissed the class. Hermione stayed behind with a couple of other girls to talk to him as I walked out of the room quickly with my other friends.

"Say, Jessica why aren't you in love with Lockhart like all the other girls are?" Ron wondered.

I shrugged, "I think he's a phony. I don't think he really knows what he's doing and I don't find that attractive at all," as an afterthought I added, "Besides he's a professor. I don't really want to think about people having crushes on teachers."

Harry, Ron and Blake understood my joke and laughed as Neville and Seamus looked confused by what I had just said. I told them it was just an inside joke and they forgot about it as we walked down the hall to History of Magic.

The teacher for History of Magic was the only ghost teacher; Professor Binns. He tended to drone on and on about some tiny part of history. Often I heard stories of kids falling asleep in his class because it was so boring. With our shoulders slumped we all dragged ourselves into the classroom.

For the first time in her life it looked like Hermione might be late to a class. Finally at last minute she burst through the door and sat in the seat we had saved for her.

It was as boring as I had been told it would be. I hadn't paid attention to his lecture at all after the first 5 minutes. Harry and Ron both looked barely awake and even Hermione was falling behind in her note taking. I knew I would need this information for exams but after that I didn't think I would ever use it at all.

With droopy eyelids the class filed past Professor Binns and into the hallway. Our last class of the day was our new class; Applied Spell Casting. We had this class with the Slytherins too, so Blake sat with us. The rest of the Slytherins were complaining about how this was an extra class from last year which meant an hour less of free time. I tuned all of them out; I was anxious to see if I could tell anything out of the ordinary about Professor Lupin after my talk with Severus.

We talked about Boggarts that day and I couldn't see anything wrong with him. his clothes were a bit old and he had some scratches down his face, that I soon realized were werewolf scratches. He knew what he was talking about and threw in a couple jokes.

Once the class was over and we were all leaving my friends were talking about how much they liked Professor Lupin. Even Hermione agreed that he was a good teacher even if it was obvious she loves Lockhart still.

We still had a few hours until dinner so we all went up to the Gryffindor common room. Blake looked so out of place with his green robes contrasting against the red and yellow common room.

We all did our homework as we chatted about our summer and the coming school year. It was a normal afternoon for us. I filled them in that I wouldn't be able to be with them after dinner Monday thru Thursday. They said they understood. Harry told us that he was thinking about trying out for the school team. I said it would be awesome if we could play together. Wood had already contacted me about tryout schedules and said he would let everyone new know about the schedule within a week so the team could start practicing as a whole as soon as possible. The common room was starting to empty as kids went down to dinner. We waited for Harry and Ron to finish the last part of their essay then got up and walked downstairs to dinner. Blake left and sat at the Slytherin table while the rest of us took seats at the Gryffindor table. Since it was the first full day the dinner was even more magnificent than normal.

Once we were all stuffed a tiny gray owl came flying into the room. The rest of the mail had come about 10 minutes ago so he looked out of place. With a crash it landed on the table. Ron sighed and muttered something under his breath as he went and retrieved the owl.

It had a red envelope in its mouth. Ron saw it and his face paled even beyond his normal paleness.
