This is the last song I'll write about you
I need to move on i think you do too
You were all that i wanted you know that you still are
Cause I've been alright yeah, but you showed me better
He stood in the doorway, looking better than ever.
He had all of his tactical gear still on, just like that day.
I know that we're changing but nothing feels different
I'm breaking the silence to say
He used to be my ride or die. The first person i thought of when i woke up and when i went to bed.
He showed me there was more to life than the army. A whole new world filled with the new and the hopeful. He said that i did the same for him but looking at him now i'm not sure how true that really was.
If in ten years time, I'm still on your mind
Would you call and say you want this?
No matter where we are, you still have my heart
Cause I locked it and I promise
Your the locksmith
Seeing him now brings back a wash of emotions I told myself I didn't feel anymore. I guess you can only lie to yourself for so long.
I wish we had fought more for what we had. Maybe if we did we wouldn't be two strangers in the base we used to sneak around in.
Maybe i'll of retired before my injury and he'd be more careful. Maybe we'd have a kid or two.
We always said that would be our future. Maybe it would of worked out of the way we wanted it to.
We said forever and said it too soon
At least now i know nobody feels like you do
You were all that i wanted and you know that you still are
I'm breaking the silence to say
I wonder if under his mask he still wants me like I still want him
Or does he have somebody else warming his bed? The one we used to share
Or is bed stone cold like mine? Can be stay in the bed we used to share without breaking down?
Or does he sleep on the floor like I do cause he can't stand being in the bed without me? Like i do?
Or is it just me?
If in ten years time, i'm still on your mind
Would you call and say you want this?
No matter where we are, you still have my heart
Cause I locked it and I promise
Your the locksmith
He stares at me, waiting for one of us to speak first.
I wish I could tell what he's thinking. His greyish blue eyes hold so much pain and sadness it's hard to tell what else lurks behind his souls gateway.
I wonder if his smile is the same or has it gotten sadder? Brighter?
Is someone making him smile the way I used to make him smile?
Does somebody else get to the face behind his famous mask? The face he used to say was just for my eyes? The face that I said would be the one I see at the end of the alter one day?
Does somebody else give him the butterflies he gave me?
Your the one I can see me growing old with
Build a house I see it now, you plant me roses
And everything we dreamed about falls into focus
Here's to hoping
I look up to his face and smile. Hoping he'd understand
He's a,ways welcome with me.
I see his shoulders release all the tension he held in them
He walks towards me and engulfs me in a hug.
He squeezes me tight as if to say 'your home and so am I'
If in ten years time, i'm still on your mind
Could you call and say you want this
No matter where we are, you still have my heart
Cause I locked it and I promise
Your the locksmith.
