Most people forget that I am not a Kane.

It's insane really, I don't have the Kane hair or the Kane eyes. The Kane stance. The Kane sarcasm.

Okay, I do have the sarcasm.

But-you get it. I'm not a Kane.

And I really, really don't want to be.

We're like brothers, I'll give you that. We grew up together, we do everything together, we've told everything to each other.

Even so, that doesn't mean I wouldn't beat them up.

They're scared, terrified even-to stand up for their younger sister.

Jaxson.

She is a storm. A blinding shadow of lightning.

And she's in my shower.

And I just stupidly called her by my nickname for her. The one before the crash.

The crash that destroyed worlds.

Ding dong, ding dong, ding dong.

So, which Kane brother is behind the door?

The leader? The goof? Or the musician?

I stride across the kitchen and open the door.

Jaze Kane gives me a broken eyed smile. "Hey Blue, what's up?"

"Jaze."

He gives a tried smile and slides past me.

And the musician wins.

"She up there?" He nods towards the stairs.

"What do you want Jaze?" I close the door and make my way back to the table.

Jaze sits in the chair across from me. "So you got the text?"

This fucker.

I clench my jaw. "Yes Jaze. I got your message."

He smiles in relief. "Good."

Relief. Relief. Relief. Relief.

Bastard.

"What is it that you are planning now?" I roll my eyes.

He stops. He mutters something lowly.

"Jaze."

He blurts out, "I need you to take care of her."

"What?"

Jaze meets my eyes. "I know I don't show it often, but you know I love Jaxx."

He does. I know he does.

He leans on the table and dives his hand in his hair.

"I need you to take of her."

I can. I can. I can.

"And you can't?" I ask.

He spits out a dark laugh, "Navy, you know I can't. I need to get the money so we can get out of that hellhole."

He shuddered.

"It's not safe for Jaxx anymore." He doesn't look up from the table. "It's safer for her to be out of there."

Rage and anger prickled under my skin.

"And you just figured this out now!" My voice rises to the point to where I stand, my hands gripping the edge of the table.

Jaze looks up, rises to my height, a pissed scowl on his face. "Are you serious Navy? I have protected her as much as I can! Did you not see the fucking soon-to-be black eye shes going to have! He hasn't hit her before now Navy! And that's thanks to me! It is not safe for her to be there anymore!"

I know he's right.

I've seen how he's right.

I sit back down. "I know your right. Jesus, Jaze. I know."

Jaze scoffs and sits. "We could kill him, you and I."

I bark out a dark laugh, "the world would be a safer place."

We first started saying shit like that after I found out about Melvin Kane.

I hated him even more than my own father.

May he rest in peace in whatever hell he's in.

"So? Will you do it?" Jaze says.

I give him a blank look. "You're really quite stupid Jaze."

Jaze runs a hand through his hair and rubs his eyes. "I know Nave. God, I really am."

I cross my arms and nod. "I'll take care of her. You know I will."

Jaze lets out a sigh. "Thank you Navy. I mean it."

"I know."

We sit in silence.

"So why did you send that message?" I frown.

Jaze huffs. "I thought it would... encourage you."

"To do what...?"

Jaze smirked slightly. "You know what."

Fuck.

So, here's the thing.

I kinda have a... I can't even say it.

Crush is a stupid word.

But there.

I basically said it.

And this guy, stupidly knows.

I'm really stupid when I'm drunk.

"Jaze." I hiss.

He just laughs. "I've kept your secret for, how long has it been? A year? And how long did I know before that?" Jaze isn't fazed by my glare. "Twelve years?"

"Six years asshole." I muttered.

Jaze and I kept talking for awhile. Weird things, like what sophomore year gonna be like, and what he's gonna do when he gets the money from his parents. Then a thump and the sound of the shower being shuts off rings through the house.

Jaze springs up and is almost at the door, then he says, "Navy, don't be like Julian. I love my brother but he's a playboy... ew, don't ever tell anyone I just said that."

One last laugh grows at my throat.

"Don't hurt my baby sister Nave, I'll still beat you up if I have to." With that Jaze leaves.

This year is going to be...eventful.

That's one word for it.

I make my way up the stair and stop outside my room.

Jaxson is in my moms old clothes, hair still soaked, and she's looking at Fate's photos.

I lean against my doorframe.

"What are you doing?"
