You were the proud son of one of the greatest captains to have lived in the Kingdom of Im, one of the most powerful countries on the continent. After successfully defending the attacks Emperor Tarid of the Tarid Empire, your father was given land to govern over and given the title of Viscount despite being from commoners. Currently you were watching your dad do his daily training and when he stopped, you approached him
" Hey dad" He turns around to see you with a big smile on his face
" What's up Y/n" He knelt down meeting your level
" Why do you train everyday?"
" I train everyday because if I don't then I would forget how to fight"
" Are you going back to war?" You had a scared expression on your face thinking your father would go back to war but he gave you a small smile and carried you onto his shoulders
" From here what do you see?"
" I see the sun setting" Your father laughed at your jolly words making you giggle
" What else do you see?" You looked down and saw the people of your land walking and talking with one another
" I see our people walking around happily smiling"
" That is the peace I wanted to protect during the war and the very reason I continue to train everyday" He placed you back down and placed a hand on your shoulder
" Training everyday means having the dedication to protect these people and that you are ready to be their shield when the time is right"
" But aren't sharp objects used for cutting? Mom always said that the best way to cut food is with a small sword" Your father chuckled at your words but thought that it was perfectly normal for these thoughts at your age
" You'll learn one day why the sword can become a shield" He ruffled your hair making you still confused on what he meant
" Come on, your mother must have finished making dinner already. I think she's made your favorite"
" Rabbit stew!" Your eyes lit up and your mouth watery from the thought of eating your favorite dish while your father just chuckled
" It is your birthday after all" He ruffled your hair before holding your hand and heading back inside your home. Night came and all the people of your land celebrated your birthday that night and even you ate a stomach full of your favorite rabbit stew but that night filled with happiness didn't last long. A week after your birthday, a great tragedy fell upon your homeland as well as your family. You watched from afar as your home was in engulfed in a rage of flames while your father died from coming back from a false report to lure him out of your home. Everything you held dear was gone in a blink of an eye
" Y/n-sama we must go" It was only you, the helpers, and a few of the people who succesfully escaped were the only survivors from the tragedy while the rest stayed behind for all of you to escape. You clutched your fists in anger for the people who would bring harm to your homeland and this marked the day you would exact revenge on the very people that brought you and your people suffering
20 years have passed and you were now a full fledged knight under the kingdom of Im. A young knight rising in the ranks in the kingdom and being named "The Demon Swordsman" was the talk around the capital having defeated the royal knight captain on your first day of being in the knights earning you an audience with the king himself
