Celine

"—don't want to go, do you, Celine?" My mother shouts from the front seat.

Before I can say anything, my father jumps in: "don't say that to her. You know she'll say no if you put pressure on her."

"So you'll make her decisions for her? When you've been in here life for about a day and still haven't even had a proper conversation—"

"And who's fault is that, Isabel?" He asks.

My mother inhales a sharp breath, and I look down at my phone. There's a message from Joey.

JOEY: Were you at an ice rink?

     I furrow my eyebrows.

ME: Yeah. How do u know?

JOEY: Your name's on the sign in sheet. Celine Maria.

ME: Oh right. How come u were their?

JOEY: Ice hockey. My dad makes me do it.

ME: I thought he was away?

JOEY: Yeah but I still have to. Levi makes me. He does it too, but with older people. How come you were there?

ME: Figure skating. I met my new coach.

JOEY: You do it like professionally?

ME: I do competitions. When I'm older I wanna go too the Olympics.

I don't know why I tell him my lifelong dream. For a moment I wonder wether he'll make fun of me, but his reply contradicts that.

JOEY: Cool. I'll be watching from the front seats.

     ME: [laughing emoji]

"Fine. But drop me off at my house first. I'm not coming." My mothers voice interrupts my cyber conversation with Joey.

"Okay." My father says. He looks back at me in the rear view mirror and smiles. I don't smile back as I return my attention to my phone.

JOEY: I have to go now. Talk later?

     ME: Sure.

I relax into my seat and shut my phone off. I wrap my arms around myself as I set the device to my side. A few minutes pass before we return home. My mother sends me a pointed look before she gets out, and when she's gone it's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

"Do you wanna get in the front?" My father asks me.

"No, it's okay."

"Alright. Nic and Scarlett are gonna bring Elias. He misses you." He replies.

I tilt my head. Elias hardly even knows me. I was there for a day. How come he likes me so much? Nevertheless, he's adorable.
