Deadly winter [Super 4 AU]

Chapter 1

This is a mess...

A cold winter had taken over the world, it didn't affect the others as much as it affected the two most peaceful kingdoms, The Enchanted Island and Kingsland turning it's residents into hostile beings, dangerous to be around. It's been 5 years since the curse took place,out of the 4, only three of them remained sane, one of them had turned hostile, along with his people. They set up a small camp, that is hidden by Twinkle's spell. Ruby was on guard, and Gene was as always at his computer.

"I can't believe we still haven't found the source of this damned curse" the scientist groaned in defeat, letting his head drop on the desk

"I've never seen anything like this before, and we can't go out either without the risk of getting killed..." Twinkle said

"And most importantly Alex isn't with us!" Ruby said angrily.

Gene looked over his tablet,he had ranked everyone based on how they work to kill their victims and the threat level
"Speaking of Alex as much as we miss him, we need to avoid him. He's a level 3 threat, along with his sister, they developed this mechanic where they work together,one attracts the prey the other finishes it off, they are also AWFULLY sneaky" he said getting up.
The winter is cold, it's hard to see, they can't work in these conditions. Gene sat there thinking, if they can't get out they can't find the source and if they can't find the source they can't stop it. There was just one solution,it takes a great risk..

"Tonight I'll go out,see what i can find.."

"WHAT?!" The girls jumped hearing their friend's proposal

"You can't go out there,Gene! Not alone!" Ruby said

"Im coming with you!" Gene looked at her

"No you're not,we aren't going to leave Twinkle alone and if we're going as a group we have higher chances to get killed, Twinkle can't fly i remind you" Gene stated, Twinkle was indeed unable to fly, her wings are at risk of getting frozen, Gene invented a small heater for them, when the heater feels the temperature of the wings lowering it will activate and warm them up enough for them not to freeze. Ruby looked at Gene, she doesn't want to admit it but she knows Gene is right

"Then im going"

"Hell no, Ruby. You're staying here, im going"

"You can't go alone Gene"

"Im not alone, taking Lenny with me"

"Gene..."

After a bit more talking he finally convinced the girls to let him go, when the night fell over, Gene said bye to the girl and left the camp with Lenny after him. They began walking, slowly not to alert anyone

"Are you sure we'll find something?" Lenny asked still looking around. Gene was looking into his tablet, scanning the places where the curse is more visible

"This is a curse it can be broken if we find it's weak spots, there must be something that would at least weaken it's state."

As they walked, entering the Enchanted Forest, a glow met their eyes, it was a tree, a weird looking tree, inside of it there was a heart made of ice. It was beating. Gene leaned in closer, studying It, he decided that it would be a good idea to touch it, big mistake, as the heart has a protection mechanic, it shot ice spikes that injured Gene around his eye, that damned tree. Gene feel back, hitting the ground

"Gene! Are you ok?!" Lenny asked concerned

"Yea im ok, stupid move on my part" Gene said getting up

"It acts like a heart,looks like one.. maybe if we can destroy it we can find out if it weakens the curse" Gene said.

"Shall we get the girls?"

"No, i got a laser blaster when we left,this should do the job"

Gene aimed the blaster towards the heart, he paused a second before shooting right in the middle, the heart now destroyed left a blue particle as the surrounding around the tree feel les..cold

"FUCK YEAH I DID IT!" Gene exclaimed happily almost throwing the laser, Lenny was thrilled too

"Now all we gotta do is find more of these trees and it would be FINALLY over" They were about to leave when they hear something in the woods, footsteps, then another pair.

"Must be the siblings" Lenny said

"I hope not, let's go" Gene said begining to walk away, but before they could get any further something grabbed Gene by his waist, a rope? But before he could do anything he was knocked down to the ground

"Got one!" A female voice said, Gene recognized the voice as being Leonora

Gene quietly told Lenny to leave, as he'll eventually find a way out

"Alex! Where are you?!" Leonora called out for her brother

"Im here calm down" Alex said as he came towards her

"We got another one! What shall we do with him? Skin him alive? Torture him?"

Alex took a good look at Gene

"...no.. let's take him at the castle, i don't know sometime about him gives me a certain vibe"

'well if is isn't great' Gene thought as he was being picked up by Alex, bridal style

At the camp Lenny rushed in meeting the worried looks of the girls

"WHERE'S GENE?!"

"Settle down I'll tell you..."
