Chapter 4 - Guilt, Manipulation, and a Witness

Hikaru and I went inside the van and drove off. Hikaru turned on one of the TVs that can be found inside the van.

After turning it on, the first thing that appeared was the video of the twins dancing.

The video of the babies went viral on the internet, with 2M views and 210K reposts.

"I am speechless," Hikaru said with a widening smile. "These kids know wotagei at a very young age."

"Indeed," I said.

There was also a picture of Ai's smile that was also the next viral thing after the twins.

It was unexpected, but guilt hit me. Ai smiled like it was the best day of her life. Seeing that smile makes me feel guilty about planning and trying to kill her. Killing the gynecologist, Gorou, made me feel more guilty this time.

To me, Ai's smile is to be protected at all costs, but, she is a slut. She had kids in the middle of her idol career. An act such as this one cannot be forgiven.

But, it feels wrong killing her. I feel like all the crazy thoughts in my head were wrong, we don't have control over another person's life, "She deserves torture." I said. But, it doesn't feel right. I might have accepted this deal without even thinking straight, and before I could change my mind, I already killed a person.

Hikaru noticed that I was feeling down, so he asked:

"What's up, Ryosuke? Is there something bothering you?"

"I don't think I can do this anymore, Hikaru. I can't kill off Ai."

"..."
"Hm, you agreed to it immediately last time, what made you change your mind?"

"We don't have control over other people's lives, it feels wrong killing this cute idol...'

"Look, she betrayed the fans. She betrayed you, Ryosuke. She had kids. Don't you feel anger towards her? She lied to you. She lied to everybody. The wretched stench that this girl emits is toxic. Toxic to everybody! Why do you think I asked you to kill her off, eh? I chose you. I chose you because you were the one capable of doing this. The world will be a better place without people like her."

"How did you even discover me? I don't think-"

"THAT IS OUT OF THE QUESTION! KILL HER, OR YOU, YOU WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!"

"What is up with you, Hikaru? I told you I can't-"

"NO! YOU MUST! YOU MUST EXECUTE! EXECUTE! EXECUTE! EXECUTE!"

Hikaru's eyes were the darkest I had ever seen. This is the first time I have seen anyone this angry, and this assertive... The black stars that can be identified in his eyes could not be seen anymore. It was pure black.

After a while, Hikaru calmed down and apologized sincerely.

"Look, I'm sorry for raging. But here's the deal. Two birds with one stone. Kill off Ai, the world will be a better place, and you will receive four million yen from me, myself."

Four?! Million?! That's a lot! This is a no-brainer! Fuck it if this is wrong, this opportunity knocks only once, and I'm going to take it!

It can be obviously seen that I was shocked when I heard it, I remained silent for a few seconds, and spoke to Hikaru, in a formal way."

"If that's how it is. Then I'll gladly accept it."

"Lovely. You're going to remain in this operation, right? We still have a couple more years."

"Definitely."

The van reached my apartment, and I got off. Hikaru and I said our farewells to each other once again.

I still feel guilty, but who cares? It's four million yen we're talking about. I killed someone once, and I'm going to do it again.

I woke up, and Hikaru made my phone vibrate again.

"Why is this dude up so early in the morning? It's literally 6 AM"

I answered the call.

Hikaru: "Ryosuke, wake up, we're going back to the Miyazaki Prefecture, to the hospital."

Ryosuke: "Eh, why?"

Hikaru: "You left the doctor's corpse there, right? You need to check it out, we need not the authorities to let them see his body."

Hikaru: "My van is already waiting for you outside."

I looked out of the window to see.

Ryosuke: "What the fuck."

Hikaru: "I know, it's early, but get dressed, we're going, there's already breakfast here so you need not worry."

Ryosuke: "Alright, alright, I'll come downstairs."

*Call end*

I rushed downstairs, went inside the van, and greeted Hikaru.

"Morning..."

"Good morning, Ryosuke. Had a good night's sleep?" Hikaru said while taking a sip out of a bowl of miso soup.

"Probably did."

Another bowl of miso soup was waiting for me at the table inside the van. I took a sip, and the van drove to the Miyazaki Prefecture.

"So tell me, where exactly did you leave the doctor's corpse?" Hikaru asked while taking another sip out of miso.

"Somewhere in the forest, the place was somewhere near a series of benches where I sat while waiting for your van."

"Interesting..."

We both finished our bowls while watching a music video of B-Komachi that was streaming on one of the TVs. We eventually arrived at the hospital for a second time.

"You investigate first, I'll go around the other areas so we can locate the body faster," Hikaru told me.

"Roger that."

I left the van and started walking east from the hospital.
While I was walking I saw a child that was sitting on a tree branch, surrounded by eight crows.

"Hey, you're the guy that killed that doctor, you were with that other guy, the one with the blonde hair, right?" the child asked me.

"How- how do you know?" I asked in reply.

"Eh, I was just sitting here in my branch when I saw the two of you, you killed that gynecologist like a goofy ass mf."

There- there was a witness?

"Who- who are you exactly?"

"I'm Yata, nice to meet you."
