Malin POV
· • – ٠ ✤ ٠ – • ·•· . ·' ♥ '· . ·•· • – ٠ ✤ ٠ – • ·The first thing I felt was the pounding of my head like it was being hammered on an anvil relentlessly. Opening my eyes was the next strenuous feat because of how heavy my eyelids felt. I could hear voices but I could barely understand them. I blinked my eyes slowly trying to see where I was.
A warm light from one of the lanterns on the wall lit up the room which made it easy for me to recognize my surrounding.
The number of times I've been here, one look and I knew I was at the infirmary.
I tried to remember what happened last before I lost consciousness. I remember that I was with Bruce and I wasn't feeling very well, I could remember the pain in my head and chest as the noise of people dancing and laughing flooded my ears.
I remember seeing Natalia; she looked so breathtaking in her dress, but I tried not to think about that. The last I remember seeing was the fear in Natalia's eyes before blood started pouring from my nose and to my shirt... and then nothing.
How am I alive? I was sure that was the end of me.
Maybe a last spark before the fire goes out?
My eyes were drooping but I did my best to stay awake. I was so weak, I could barely raise my arms.
The curtain beside me was closed but I could hear the people behind it. I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the voices.
"Wait, we think this might help," I heard Danielle's voice.
I heard some rustling, "What is this?" I heard a man's voice who I'm sure is the doctor.
"We think this might be her medicine," I heard Ramona's voice which surprised me. That girl hates me with a passion, I didn't think she would be here talking about my medicine when she could be outside celebrating my imminent demise.
"Let me see that," I heard Maria's voice.
The silence that followed was eerie. No one made a single sound. What is happening out there?
Suddenly the curtain opened and Maria's eyes instantly met mine. She looked concerned and shocked staring at me.
"You okay?" I asked, my voice hoarse. I knew it was strange to ask when I was the one in bed dying, but Maria looked really unsettled.
She raises my jars of medicine, "What's this?" she asked even though I could see in her eyes that she knew what they were. Of course, she knew, she's a herbalist.
I tried to focus on her hand that was holding my medicine, "Um, my medicine?" I croaked carefully. The urgency on her face was a little alarming.
She sighed like she expected my answer. "Since when have you been drinking this?" She asked.
I hesitated but replied, "A few weeks after the Vitalis war."
She turned to face Natalia who I just noticed didn't take her green eyes off me. She looked like she was keeping her tears at bay with worry. The spell might still be enough to make her care about my well-being. It must also be the reason why I still woke up. That small bond that was left connecting us.
I didn't even look at anyone in the room even though I knew they were all there, I couldn't face them. It was embarrassing laying here waiting for death. I hated being seen as weak and vulnerable because I knew people loved to take advantage of it.
