Banquet

Alexies sat at his desk, surrounded by stacks of papers that he had been working on for hours. He shifted through the piles and suddenly remembered that he received an invitation for his boss, Alejandro.

His eyes darted around the cluttered desk, searching for the invitation card that he had carefully tucked away. Ngayon niya lang ito maibibigay sa boss niya dahil alam niyang may hinaharap itong problema sa mga nagdaang buwan.

Agad naman siyang nagtungo sa pintuan ng opisina nito at kumatok.

"Sir, this is Alexies. There is something important invitation for you." aniya.

"Come in." saad ni Syllvester sa sekretaryo niya.

Bumukas naman kaagad ang pintuan at pumasok ang lalaki na may dalang black invitation card.

Tiningnan ko lang si Alexies na ngayon ay palabas na sa opisina. Hindi naman ako chismosa kaya bumaling nalang ulit ang tingin ko sa binabasa kong libro.

Napagtripan ko lang, kasi andaming libro rito sa opisina ni Syllvester. May mga papeles rin akong nababasa tungkol sa ibang mga proyekto labas sa kompanya niya. Scholars, remote areas and donation, something like that at may mga larawan siyang may mga kasamang matatanda at bata.

I heard a footstep coming to my direction kaya napaangat ulit ang tingin ko. Papalapit sa akin si Syllvester habang hawak ang isang card.

"It's an invitation to a business ball, one of the most prestigious events in the industry."

Syllvester handed me the ornate invitation. "Wow, a business ball," I said, running my fingers over the embossed letters on the card.

"Kailan 'to, Syllv?" I asked.

"It's in two weeks," Syllvester replied.

"And I want you to come with me, as my date, but I know you're not used to attend this events so I thought of declining the invitation."

My heart skipped a beat at his words.

Ako?

Attending a high-profile event with my successful and handsome husband? It was almost too much to comprehend.

"Really? Are you sure?" tanong ko sa kanya. Umupo naman siya sa tabi ko.

"You're right. I don't know if I'll fit in with all those business people. I'm not exactly the social butterfly type." I added at saka ipinatong ang kamay ko sa hita ko na nakahawak sa card.

"Pero sayang din, Syllv. Halatang mga bigatin din ang pupunta roon, kaya don't decline the invitation." saad ko sa kanya.

"Pero gusto ko kasama ka." He held my hand and squeeze it softly.

"Sinong may sabing hindi ako sasama? Sinabi ko lang naman na hindi ako social butterfly at wala akong alam sa business, hindi ko naman sinabing hindi kita sasamahan." mahabang litanya ko sa kanya at nakapamewang na.

"I want to show you off to all my colleagues and friends."

I couldn't help but blush at his words. "Oo na! Sasamahan kita." I said, feeling a surge of confidence wash over me.

"Pero enggrande 'yan. I don't even know how to do make-up." dagdag ko pang wika sa kanya. Kung maalam lang ako ay paniguradong ako ang mag-aayos sa sarili ko.
