Journey to glory

Chapter 33

I look down and than take a glance to the right side of the goal. Trying maybe to trick the goalkeeper. I take some small quick steps to the goal. I look down and shoot to the left. It feels like ages watching the ball roll along the ground. I think I have gone numb and grounded to one spot in the ground. I have zoned out well until I hear a scream and full body weight on top of me. "What happened, did I score?" I say "well yes kid if u didn't we wouldn't be jumping and screaming" Mary laughs. Leah is in tears. Lessi jumps onto me giving me a hug. I get a series of "we knew you could do it" and "well done" after all that I went over and sat next to Ona and mapi and alexia. I told them that they had a good game. They wished me well ans again alexia managed to sneak the topic of moving to Barca.

Shortly after I went to celebrate with the team doing a pitch walk. Signing things and taking pictures I was surprised to see some people had a jersey with my name on it. I got called for an interview which really had pretty basic questions, how I feel etc I even got player of the match. Which felt incredible really. I got called over by sarina who basically said she believed in me and said well done on the good game. I than went out to the rest of the girls. We eventually got to the area behind the bench and I was surprised who I saw and more in particular I was surprised to see my mother. Now what the hell could she want. I went over to my family which was nearly everyone they told me that someone from the team sent a bunch of tickets and told them about the game. We talked for a while well until my mother called me to the side and asked could we talk in private. I don't know what to say I just stare at the woman. I mean ya she's my mother but she's been awful to me. She has made me suicidal and I never got a childhood I had to grow up way to fast. "Fine I'll text you later about where and when I need to go now" I say before walking away and straight into the dressing room.

I was furious and not just furious but also confused and upset. Without thinking when I went into the dressing room I yelled "WHO GAVE MY FAMILY TICKETS TO THE GAME" I got no answer "I SAID WHO FUCKING TOLD MY FAMILY TO COME" this time everyone looked over and turned down the music. "Y/n calm down, we saw no one was scheduled to see you when we have the family day later in the week so we did some research and sent them some tickets, we didn't see the big deal" Millie says "of course YOU don't see the big deal as you have NO IDEA what has happened to me, I didn't want some of those people here" I said as I stormed out the door. I text my mother
meet me in the coffee shop, I will send you the location of it
I only get a thumbs up back, we are staying at a local hotel and there's a coffee place next to it. I sit with my head phones in, everyone ignoring me well Leah doesn't and sits next to me yanking our my headphones as the bus moves for it's short journey. "What the hell is wrong with you, those are your teammates who did something nice, you had a great debut in a massive competition and this is how you act, you know I treat you like family but this is unacceptable, what's going on?"  Leah says with half rage and half pitty. "All I'm saying is my mother and I'll apologise to everyone later I know it was wrong " I reply with me head down and putting my headphones back in. Leah seems to understand and leaves me be. We get to the hotel and we all have our own rooms but I go to the coffee place.

I walk into the cafe and see my mother sitting down at a table I sit across from her. "Well" I say waiting for her to start.  " I want to say I'm sorry, it's been hard for me you know, raising two kids, I wanted life to be different, I wanted you to be a doctor but I'm here asking you now for money, I should get it anyway as a thank you for raising you " she asks and me being completely stunned "money MONEY? I already give you money, what the hell do you spend it on? And a thank you, for what? I raised my sister, I cooked, cleaned, even when I was dying sick I did everything, I did dealt with YOUR burdens and troubles, I got given out to for everything, GOD DAMMIT MOM you made me want to kill myself" I say the end bit a bit quieter not letting the tears drop. "Frankly I don't care" I add, I mean I do I always will she is my mother but I can never forgive her. "I provided everything for you" she says back "you know what I can't be bothered, I'll send you a bunch of money but Sarah will live with dad, and you will never talk to me again well until you apologise to me first" I say firmly "apologise to you, are you serious? And what will happen to your step dad" she says "oh I'll still talk to him" i say but quickly add on "so frankly I don't care about you right now, I'll send you the money tonight and I'll be waiting for an apology message" I say quickly before standing up and leaving. I send a message to Sarah telling her to pack all her things to go to dad and a quick update message to Ben (step dad). They are both understanding enough. I send my mother a few too many grand for my liking but I'll move on.

I head back into the hotel and find Leah's room. I give it a knock to find her there "can I please come in" I say with my eyes turning glossy "of course, what happened" she says while we both sit on the bed. I tell her the full story while crying at the end of it. I tell her I will tell the rest of the team and apologise tomorrow morning. We end up falling asleep still in our gear with me holding onto her for dear life.
