Luz walked to the Elephant exhibit.
"Alright, what's the problem?" Luz asked.
"One of the babies fell and hurt their leg, we need you and... whatever it is that allows the animals to listen to you, to go in there and keep the adults calm while we get the vets in there." Another Keeper said.
"Got it. Just stay back and let me work my magic before giving you the signal." Luz said with a nod, walking into the exhibit to work her LITERAL magic.
She saw the baby on the ground.
"Oh, poor baby." Luz said, "Which one is your mother, little one?"
"T-That one." The baby said as he pointed his trunk at a large elephant in the corner.
"Alright, I'll talk with her and then I'll get some help sent in to make you feel better."
The young pachyderm nodded to Luz as she gave it a small kiss to take his mind off the pain before she walked up to the mother elephant.
"Hello, Gloria." Luz said with a smile.
"Keeper Luz, I'm so glad to see you here."
"Don't worry, my mom will make sure he's better. I just need you to keep the other's away." Luz said.
"It shall be done. Please, make sure they take care of my child." Gloria replied.
"They will, I promise." Luz said.
Luz turned to the others and gave them the signal, letting them go to help the baby elephant as Luz and Gloria held back and calmed the rest of the herd.
"Don't worry, they'll help him." Luz said.
"But what if they hurt him instead?" One asked.
"We have had them look over us many times and we have not been hurt." Gloria said to the herd.
"It is different with us. We are big and strong, he is young." Another one said as the humans began looking the baby over.
"I won't allow that." Luz said.
Luz and Gloria did their best to hold the herd back as Camila examined the little elephant.
"It's okay, Shep. I'm going to help you feel better." Camila said to the young elephant.
Camila examined the leg and found the problem.
"Alright, it's just a small facture, with proper medical attention, it will be healed within 4-6 weeks. Until then, you'll need help moving around." Camila said as she whistled for Luz to come over.
"I'll be right back, guys. I'm going to get the results." Luz said to the elephants before rushing to her mother. "What's the diagnosis on Shep?"
"A small fracture. He just needs proper attention and help moving, and he'll be back to normal in 4-6 weeks." Camila said.
"What do I need to do to help?" Luz asked.
"He needs a split big enough to straighten his leg. He shouldn't bend it for at least a week." Camila said to her daughter.
"Alright, I'll tell the other staff and... hopefully that will put the rest of his pack at ease." Luz said.
Luz gave Shep another pat on the head before she went to tell the rest of the staff before she went towards elephant herd to tell them Shep would be alright, Gloria was the happiest about that news.
"I don't know what I would do without you, Keeper Luz."
"Don't think about it. I'm happy to help." Luz said with a smile.
She wrapped her trunk around Luz, giving her an elephant version of a hug.
"Aw, no problem, Gloria." Luz said as she hugged the trunk back.
