[A/N]I would like to address a very sensitive subject regarding this novel in the first chapter itself, so I do not receive unnecessary hate later on. I am talking about cultural appropriation, while writing in 'danmei style' as a non-Chinese person.

I am born and raised in India, and I cannot speak Madarin. I am taking lessons from duolingo, and learning through songs, dramas and of course, danmei. I have no intention to mock or insult any cultures through this book, instead this is my way of showing how much I've come to love danmei. I take extensive care of doing my research before posting any Chinese references, but I cannot be as well-versed in their history and culture as much as someone growing up there. So I take responsibility to correct/remove any part that might come off as offensive; so please point out errors/suggestions.

The origins of danmei are surely the result of struggling writers in PRC trying to publish queer literature within the heavy censorship. Tragically so, this aspect of danmei gives it an aesthetic appeal with a beautiful plot and lack of/minimum sexual scenarios, forming a new style of BL. This doesn't apply to all damei novels, but it does to some of my favourites. Hats off to these amazing authors for bringing danmei into the world, and all credit of this idea goes to them.

Danmei come in all shapes and sizes, but this work is in the historical, fantasy, cultivation sub-genre. Thus, no real cities, government laws or social structures are discussed in this work. All names/places are imaginary, and I do not intend to imitate any real life.

Lastly, I cannot be more privileged to be born in a country where I can write and publish anything. I have no intention of abusing this privilege to create stereotypes/misunderstandings. Happy reading!
