I wake up with a groan. My ankle and my head are throbbing like I had got thrown around like a rag doll. I climb down with one leg, trying to keep the hurt ankle from being used.
I limp through the woods, thankful that my tree isn't that far. I stop to rest every few seconds, wondering if this is what being hungover after a fight is like.
At breakfast, I trip on my own foot on my way to get my food. I fully expect to land on my face but an arm shoots out and holds me up. I look up and see Newt's friendly face looking at me worriedly.
"You okay, Greenie?" He frowns slightly.
I stand back up. "Yeah, I'm all right. I think I might've twisted my ankle last night though." I look down at my left leg.
Newt bends down. "Can I have a look at it?"
I nod. "Sure, go ahead."
He reaches out and pulls my pants leg up, gasping when he sees my swollen ankle. "Oh, god," He breathes. "That looks painful."
I shrug. "I've had worse."
He stands up. "You need to see Clint and Jeff."
I frown. "Why? I don't need them."
He frowns. "Greenie, I know a sprained ankle when I see one. Now you either go over there after breakfast or I will carry you."
I stare at him in shock. "You wouldn't."
He smirks. "We'll see about that."
I huff. "No." I push past him and grab a bowl of oatmeal. "You can't make me. Hey, Fry."
Fry waves back, clearly amused at our little quarrel.
Newt frowns at me sadly, giving me puppy eyes. "Just do it, please. For your own good? For me?"
I stare back at him, feeling my resolve melting at the sight of his huge brown eyes.
I look down, then away towards a big stump. "No." I walk away, sitting on the stump and taking a bite of the oatmeal.

As I'm on my way to ask Alby about my new job today, I feel an arm wrap around my back and the back of my legs. Before I can do anything, the arms scoop me up and hold me against a warm, hard chest.
I wriggle around. "What-" I raise my arm, getting ready to elbow the person in the nose until I see Newt's blonde hair and brown eyes.
I huff. "Oh, it's you." I turn my head all the way so I can have a decent conversation, crossing my arms huffily.
He glances down at me with a straight face, his eyes twinkling with hidden mirth. "Yes, it's me."
I pout. "Why? I was gonna go ask Alby to give me a job for today."
He grins slightly. "He told me to take you to Jeff. You can't work with a twisted ankle."
I frown. "You went and tattled on me? Traitor."
That brings a wide smile on his face. "Yes. I actually care about your well-being, unlike someone I know." He looks pointedly at me.
I grin to myself, laying back and letting him carry me to what I assume is the closest thing they have to a hospital.
I wriggle around as soon as we enter the room. "Put me down, I can stand on my own."
He chuckles. "Ok, ok, green bean. If you insist." He sets me down on my leg gently, still gripping my arm in case I lose balance. "Hey, Jeff!"
A dark-skinned, good-looking boy comes down the stairs grinning. "Hey hey, Newt! What do we have today? Any goats need their legs in a splint again?"
He chuckles. "No, unless you can call the new Greenie a goat." He gestures to where I was leaning against the wall, out of his sight. I stand up and limp over to Newt's side. "She hurt her ankle last night, tripping Gally."
Jeff chuckles. "Well then, miss, if you'll just come over to this cot I'll have a look at your ankle."
I grin slightly. I like this one. I hop over to it, leaning on Newt's arm for balance. I sit down, letting out a silent sigh of relief as I relax my leg muscles.
He squats in front of me. "The left one?"
I nod, and he pulls my ankle into his lap gently. He lets out a breath through his lips. "Ok. Good news. This isn't sprained, but it's pretty close."
I glance at Newt, smirking. He grins sheepishly and I chuckle. "I know a sprained ankle when I see one, you need to go see the doctor or I'll carry you myself," I mock in his voice.
They chuckle too. Jeff turns to me. "You need to lay down, get some ice on it and lift it above your hips somehow. I'm gonna wrap that with some gauze to compress it, then all you need to do is rest for a few hours, you should be good to go after that."
I frown. "A couple of hours? How many hours is a few?"
He hums. "I don't know. What do you think, Newt?"
Newt shrugs. "Don't ask me. You're the doctor."
"What time is it?"
"About seven o'clock."
Jeff nods. "Five hours would be enough. You can get up at lunch."
I grimace. "Fine. Can I lay outside though? I wanna see what's going on out there."
Jeff chuckles. "No, but you can lay down in the Homestead. I think a hammock could work."
Newt nods. "She can have mine."
I bite my lower lip. "Fine."

"How's your ankle?" Newt sits down next to me on the clover patch I had discovered.
I shrug. "As good as can be expected, I guess." I pop a clover seed pod into my mouth, grinning when I feel the seeds pop out in all directions at the contact like confetti.
"What'd you just eat?" Newt's alarmed expression makes me grin. "Spit it out now! You don't know what that was!"
I fake a serious expression. "You mean, a clover seed pod could've killed me? Oh me, oh my, whatever shall you do with me." I sigh, shaking my head with disappointment.
I smirk at him, and he blushes, rubbing the back of his neck.
"They're pretty good, actually. Here, watch." I pick another and hold it up to his lips.
He backs up and takes it from my hand, studying it suspiciously.
I put my hand on my hip. "Would I try to poison you?"
He nods. "Yes, actually. You're too unpredictable."
I frown. "I just ate one of those. If it was poisonous I'd be dead right now." I shrug. "Your loss. I'm going to report to Alby for my next job." I pick up my bowl and head for the kitchen.
A/N This is so cringey and short... I literally had no idea how to end this, so I'm just gonna pick up and write about how she got her job in the next chapter.
This one was kinda filler and I have no idea what to do when you twist your ankle, so if I got anything wrong please tell me!
