"You know I love you, right?", Alejandro asked as he breathed a kiss to your shoulder.
A soft smile on your lips, you let out a deep sigh and snuggled with your back against his hairy chest to feel his bare skin on yours.
"I know.", you grabbed his hand to press a kiss on the back of it. "But I take it that our issues aren't resolved with this."
"No.", he buried his face in the crotch of your neck to take a deep breath of your scent. "But they could be solved easily."
You chuckled.
"How so?"
"Don't meet up with her."
The smile froze on your face. You knew that he meant it. Even though he had kind of admitted that he would have used you as bait to get the cartel, it was clear that he didn't truly want to put you in danger.
You, on the other hand, were absolutely willing to go the extra mile to make things right.
Both of you knew that the cartel issue wouldn't solve itself. But it was obvious that only one of you was ready to make a sacrifice.
"Mi lobo...", you turned to meet his gaze, your hands rose to grab his face. "I need to do something. She's a danger to the kids."
"There has to be another way.", he frowned.
"Maybe. But it will certainly take many more years and an even longer phase or suffering. This could be a quick cut."
"How do you even imagine all this to play out?", he sat up in bed, leaned against the headrest and crossed his arms in front of his chest to let his gaze wander along his narco board.
You rolled yourself to your back and chuckled while your eyes rested on a spot on the ceiling.
"The narco way.", you shrugged. "I'll just get close and then shoot her."
Concerned, Alejandro's eyes widened.
"You know that you might get in but certainly won't ever get out again, right?", he asked, half joking, half worried that you couldn't be serious.
A sigh escaped you.
"It's very unlikely, yes."
"I won't let that happen."
"I feared you'd say that.", you sat up as well to have a look at the plan that he had fabricated over the many years he had served. "But what other option we have?"
You shrugged.
With a look of dissatisfaction and his eyebrows knitted together, he tensed his jaw. One look at him was enough to see how his head was working to find a solution.
Somehow the sight made you smile softly. It still mesmerised you that Alejandro was your husband. Out of all the people in Las Almas, corrupted military, narcos, civilians, did you end up with that one guy that was objectively the worst fit for a person with your history.
And yet it worked. So well that the situation resolved itself.
"Bien, I'll let you go.", he finally said to your surprise and slid out of bed to fetch his underwear. "Under a few conditions."
For a second you hesitated. Then one of your eyebrows rose and the smirk returned to your lips.
"I'm listening.", in a sweet, teasing manner you leaned forward and popped your chin on your knees to smile at him.
Over his shoulder he glanced at you, his eyes lingered on your naked skin for a while before he returned the smirk and tossed some clothes at you.
"We should discuss it with the Vaqueros as well.", he cleared his throat to make himself sound like the colonel that he was. "It involves them anyways. Also, our British friends have some business with the cartel too."
Chuckling, you threw on the clothes and jumped out of bed to hunt for the socks that were still missing while Alejandro did not give a single fuck and simply slit into his combat boots bare footed.
He was about to reach for the door to let you out as a knock suddenly sounded.
Struck by surprise, the two of you looked at each other. His hair was messy, all in his face and not styled the way he usually kept it. You, on the other hand, had visible marks on your wrists and your neck.
Both of you had expected to have some time to gather yourselves before having to face others. But fate wasn't on your sides, it seemed.
With your eyes locked, Alejandro pressed into a thin line and shook his head.
It knocked again, more persistent this time.
"Let's just pray it's Rudy...", you mumbled and opened the door.
A head of black hair appeared, together with a soft face that had such a serious look on it that it seemed such a strange fit it almost made you smile.
Relieved, you let out a laugh.
"God bless you.", you gave Rodolfo a bump to the shoulder. "You want to talk to the colonel, ay? I'll be on my way then."
Before he could open his mouth and ask uncomfortable questions, you rushed past him and ran for the hills.
Alejandro was left behind. Like a deep in the headlines he locked eyes with his childhood friend who was visibly uncomfortable.
"How long have you been here?", Alejandro simply asked with his eyebrows pulled together.
Rodolfo looked away. He thought for a second.
"Longer than I want to admit...", he said and cleared his throat. "But you also caught me by surprise when I had my first girlfriend so..?"
"Call it even?"
"And never talk about it again? Deal."
"Let's just pretend it never happened."
"We both know that's not gonna happen. Let's just call it even."
A second of uncomfortable silence spread between the two men. This wasn't the first weird situation between them but they also weren't seventeen anymore, laughing about stupid things like catching each other making out with the same girl at the same party at different times.
"Anyways...", Alejandro wiped his eyes. "What's up?"
Torn from his thoughts, Rudy shook his head.
"Uh, the Brits want to have a conversation.", he said and pulled out his phone to show his colonel a message from Laswell. "Kate is itching for results."
"Perfect timing, hermano.", Alejandro pushed Rodolfo down the hallway. "I just wanted to share some tactics with the rest of you."
