Prologue

Keomi Katayama's life took a sudden turn when her parents made the decision to move from Canada to Japan when she was five, leaving behind the life she had known. Her parents Ren and Chiaki, had gotten better job opportunities which led to the move. When they returned to Japan, her mother's friendship with Kusuo Saiki's mom, Kurumi, was still as strong as it was when they left. The two women had been best friends during their own high school years, and despite the distance and time, they managed to maintain their connection. Keomi's parents felt it was time to return to their home, and thus, they embarked on the journey with their daughter.

After arriving in Japan, Keomi and her family found themselves faced with an environment and a culture that had significantly changed over the ten years they had been gone. During the adjustment, Keomi and Saiki's mothers wasted no time meeting up. They arranged a get-together between the two families, hoping that their children would find some comfort and companionship in each other.

However, Saiki, initially, wasn't exactly thrilled about meeting Keomi. Perhaps it was the abruptness of the introduction or the overwhelming urge he had to be left alone. Keomi, on the other hand, being the perceptive and empathetic person she was, sensed his reservations and decided to give him space. She respected his boundaries, understanding that building a connection couldn't be forced, though it did dishearten her to admit that.

Months passed, and Keomi and Saiki continued seeing each other regularly due to their mothers' friendship. Keomi still maintained her distance and Saiki couldn't help but wonder why she had never made an effort to get to know him better, not that it bothered him or anything. One day, he reluctantly decided to ask her about it, though he felt somewhat pathetic.

To Saiki's surprise, Keomi shared with him a secret she had been keeping: she possessed psychic powers, including the ability to empathize deeply with others. Keomi explained that she had always known how Saiki felt, but she didn't want to intrude or make him uncomfortable. Her empathetic nature made her cautious about crossing any boundaries, especially when it came to emotions. She explained that despite having these powers she didn't use the ones she could control very often.

Saiki, intrigued and slightly taken aback by Keomi's confession, realized that her struggles with emotional control had not gone unnoticed by him. He had observed how overwhelming it could be for her to experience not only her own emotions but also those of others. In that moment, Keomi's vulnerability struck a chord with Saiki, as he recognized the weight she carried.

Empathy, it turned out, was not Keomi's exclusive power. Saiki, too, possessed supernatural abilities, and he confided in Keomi about his own powers. The revelation brought them closer, forging a bond rooted in understanding and shared experiences. With this newfound understanding, Saiki no longer shut Keomi out, allowing her to become a significant presence in his life.

As their friendship blossomed, Keomi and Saiki discovered that their unique gifts brought them closer together, enabling them to support each other in ways no one else could. They became each other's confidants, finding comfort in the knowledge that they were not alone in their extraordinary abilities.

Together, Keomi and Saiki spent most of their time together. He taught her how to control her powers and strengthen her abilities. He was always there to support her through the overwhelming emotions she constantly felt and she was always there to keep unwanted attention away from him. Together they made quite the pair and over the years they only got closer which brings us to the present, Saiki and Keomi's second year of high school.
