Serenity had followed her father up the stairs, she felt like she needed to console her father. She knew where he was coming from, he only wanted to protect them from unknown danger.

She sat next to her father, their eyes connecting, "I understand where you're coming from, I don't think Alicia meant any harm though."

Victor sighed, running his hand down his face, "She put all of us in danger. Them, me, and especially you."

Serenity sighed, nodding her head, "I know, Dad." Of course, she agreed with her father, she just didn't like the conflict that this whole situation created.

Nick walked up the stairs to the cockpit, causing both of them to turn their attention toward him.

Victor sighed looking at the boy, "I'm tired."

Nick propped his arm on the stairwell railing, "Alicia's just trying to help."

Victor looked out to the ocean, "She's trying to help those who don't matter to us. She made a mistake we can't afford. Everyone here needs to contribute or at the very least not compromise."

Nick raised his head off his arm, confused, "How do I contribute? Why am I here?" He pulled himself up the stairs walking closer to the two.

Victor turned toward the boy, raising his eyebrows, "You mean on this boat or here existentially?"

Nick sat down, leaning his head against the wood, "Either."

Victor moved to sit next to the boy, "How many times should you of died?" Serenity raised her eyebrows at her father's use of words, before turning her attention back to Nick. She too was quite curious, but she wouldn't outright ask.

Nick shrugged, "I don't know. Every time I used." He glanced at Victor, his answer sounding more like a question.

"Were you afraid?" Victor asked.

Nick blinked, turning his head, it seemed as though he had never thought about his drug use that way. Victor continued, "That's fearlessness. That's the focus."

Nick shook his head at the man, disagreeing, "That's just being an addict. It's not something you put on your resume."

Victor squinted at him, "But what does that fearlessness look like in this world? That has value, Nicholas."
