Who holds the scales
that weigh the price of gold
Against the price of stone?
She's blindfolded
not to be blind to truth
But to be blind to lies.
What happens when her clothe is too thick
And she is blind to see
The banker making a fool of thee.
She picks up the scales with her left hand
But she does not see
The banker behind her tipping the scale.
He reaches in and takes his share
Then skims a little more.
He'll divvy to himself
And may slide a little to her.

PoetryPoetry collection for my dad. Themes range from nostalgia to injustice to heartfelt. Despite its central topics, the collection attempts to return to a brighter tone from Violet's previous works.
