এক ফুলঝড়া সন্ধ্যায় দেখেছিলাম তারে—
হয়েছিলো মোদের দৃষ্টি বিনিময় ।
হৃদয়ের মধ্যে দেখা দিয়েছিল চাপা অনুরাগ,
কথার মিলনে দুজনে পেয়েছিলাম দুজনকে ।
তখনও বুঝিনি একেই বলে প্রেম।।
কথায় আছে ভালোবাসা হয় দু-তরফা,
কিন্তু, এই ভালোবাসার শুরু ও শেষ হয়েছিল একতরফা।
মিলনে যতনা আনন্দ—বিচ্ছেদে ততই বেদনা ।।
ফুলঝড়া সন্ধ্যার পর যখন চলে এলাম নিজ গৃহে,
তখন তার ভাবনায় ফেলেছি কতইনা অশ্রুজল।
বুঝিয়ে উঠতে পারিনি অবুঝ মনকে।
শুধুই যে কেঁদেছি, দিন এর পর দিন, রাত এর পর রাত
অবশেষে এলো সেই দিন, যেদিন আমি আবার হলাম তার সম্মুখে ।
কিন্তু, কিছু মুহূর্ত পরেই আমার স্বপ্ন গেলো ভেঙে।
অনুভব করলাম—যাকে আমি চেয়েছি সে আমায় চায়নি ।
তাই ধীরে ধীরে নিজেকে নিয়ে আসলাম সরিয়ে।।
কিন্তু আমি আজও তাকে ভুলব না, ভুলবনা কোনোদিন।
কারণ, আমি যে তাকে চেয়েছিলাম
আমার ভালোবাসার পথিক হিসেবে।
সেই স্বপ্ন আজ গেলো কোনো গভীর অন্তরখানে,
অস্ত ভরা সূর্যের মত
আমাকে একলা ফেলে?

English Translation

It was one flowery evening when I caught a glimpse of him—
The meeting of our eyes happened after.
Suppressed passion appeared in my heart,
We found one another in the meeting of words.
Even then I did not understand that this is called love.
As the saying goes, love is a mutual bond
But the beginning and end of this love was one-sided.
Union elated me—while separation pained me.
Returned home after the flowery evening and shredded bundles of tears in his memories,
Couldn't convince my foolish mind.
I cried and cried, day after day, night after night
Eventually, the day arrived when our paths crossed again
But, within the blink of an eye, my dream faced destruction.
Realization struck me—the one whom I wanted, didn't want me
And I distanced myself slowly from him.
But I will never forget him till this day, not at all.
Because I yearned for him
As my companion of love.
That dream drowned in an abyss of darkness today,
Like the setting sun
Leaving me behind?
