Chapter 18

The next night found Lena Luthor in her lavish penthouse, standing in her bathroom in front of the mirror, carefully applying makeup so that she'd look perfect for the most important dinner of her life. Tonight was the night she was finally going out on a date with Kara Danvers, the girl Lena had had a not so small crush on since the day they met in the old reality and now that they'd finally buried the hatchet, Lena was taking Kara out on their first date and she was sparing no expense, since she'd never felt this way about anyone before, not even her two most recent boyfriends, Jack Spheer and James Olsen and she wanted to make sure everything was perfect. That was why she'd gotten Kara to agree to let her spoil her for their first date, so she could use her vast fortune to make Kara feel as special as she truly was.

Anyways, Lena was planning on taking Kara out to the most exclusive and expensive restaurant in the city where she'd reserved a private dining room and was planning on making sure that Kara didn't even think about putting on her super suit while they were out. Especially since she was planning on making sure that for once Kara let someone take care of her instead of Kara worrying about taking care of everyone else.

Lena smiled as she finished touching up her makeup and saw that she looked perfect before returning to her bedroom and walked over to her bed, where earlier she'd placed a hanger that had the stunning purple dress that Lena planned on wearing tonight, since just like how blue was Kara's color, Lena had always felt like purple was hers. And as Lena picked up the dress, she couldn't help but smirk as she thought of the look on Kara's face when she saw her wearing this number, since Lena had actually left the office early today just so that she could go out and buy it, since she wanted to look perfect tonight.

However, she was pulled from her thoughts about how perfect this date would be when her phone buzzed and Lena saw it was an alert from her security system that someone was at her door and Lena groaned as she checked the time, since her first thought was that it was Kara showing up at her door early, since their date wasn't for another hour and Lena had specifically told her that she wanted to pick her up as she pulled up a view of her front door and groaned again as she saw it was her mother, Lillian Luthor, who was the last person Lena wanted to see right now, but she decided to just get whatever Lillian wanted over with so she could go back to getting ready for her big date. If it had been anyone else, Lena would've had them wait until she was a bit more presentable, but since this was her stepmom and she wanted to get her out of her as quickly as possible, she had no problem going to answer the door while only wearing her bathrobe and having her hair up in curlers.

"What do you want?" Lena asked when she opened the door to Lillian, wanting to get this over with quickly.

"Hello to you too dear. I see I came at a bad time." Lillian said as she entered Lena's apartment anyways.

"And yet you come in anyways." Lena said as she closed the door and watched her mother get comfortable on her couch.

"I just wanted to check in on you." Lillian said.

"Okay well, I'm kind of busy getting ready for an important dinner tonight, so could you please leave." Lena said, trying very hard to force pleasantries into her voice and she also didn't want her mom to know that she was dating Supergirl.

"You mean you have a date with the kryptonian tonight." Lillian said.

"So we both know who she really is and that makes me want you out of my apartment even more now." Lena said.

"I have to admit, I'm impressed." Lillian said.

"With what?" Lena asked.

"This is a tactic Lex never would've thought of. Getting in close with a Kryptonian like this just so you can catch her off guard and destroy her, that's brilliant. I didn't think you had it in you." Lillian said and Lena couldn't help but snort, since her mother was about a universe too late.

"Except this isn't some kind of angle. I'm not like you and Lex, this date is genuine and so are my feelings for Kara. I'm not trying to manipulate her or destroy her." Lena said.

"So, you're siding with the family of the man who put your brother in prison and destroyed our family's name?" Lillian said coldly.

"Lex is lucky all Superman did was put him in prison. If he was as bad as you both think, Lex would be dead right now like he should be. And I don't care about the family name. Honestly, I am ashamed to be a part of this family, since everyone assumes that I'm like Lex, but I don't hate kryptonians like you and he do. I judge all people based on their actions, not their species. Now get out of my apartment and if you ever come back, I will have you arrested." Lena said, making it clear.

"You really expect me to believe that your feelings for that creature are real? One day you'll see her the way Lex and I do." Lillian said.

"And it will be a cold day in hell before I ever take your side over her's." Lena said.

"You might be able to force me to leave, but might I remind you that you have no grounds to have me arrested." Lillian said.

"Yet. I'm sure I'll find something to show the world where Lex gets his insanity from." Lena said as she made it clear that she was not welcoming Lillian back into her apartment ever again and Lillian could tell that she'd pushed Lena too far, so she decided to leave and let Lena learn that she was right for herself.

"Great, now I have to figure out how to avoid letting my mother's visit ruin my night with Kara." Lena said, since she didn't want Kara to pick up on any tension tonight. Tonight was only about them. Especially since she needed to make sure Kara knew that her new dog was not a deal breaker, if anything, Lena was eager to be around an alien dog, since she'd wanted a puppy growing up, but her parents had always said no, even though Lena was positive that if Lex had asked, they would've bought him any dog he wanted.

But enough about her family. Lena was done thinking about them and she was ready to start focusing on herself and her future.
