Kelly's heart stopped for a moment when she entered the hospital room and saw Alex lying in that hospital bed, so many different machines hooked up to her, looking so pale and frail and weak and broken. It just didn't seem right to see her warrior of a girlfriend looking like this. Though she did find it a bit ironic that they'd first met in a medical tent while they were overseas and now they would hopefully be beginning their engagement in a hospital. Though of course, Alex still needed to wake up and say yes to her proposal.

"Come on Alex, you need to wake up. Wake up so we can start our life together. Just like we always talked about. We can get married, help Kara protect this city and eventually have kids of our own. We never decided if we were going to adopt or if we'd use a surrogate and if so, which one of us would carry the baby, but that's why you need to wake up. So we can have those conversations. We have a whole ahead of us and I need you to wake up so we can start it. I know you can do it. Just open those eyes of yours." Kelly said, though she didn't know if Alex could actually hear her, she needed to say it anyway.

To her relief, Alex's hand did start to twitch as her eyes opened.

"Kelly." Alex said, her voice hoarse and her throat sore from the tube that had been down it while was in surgery.

"Alex." Kelly said as she quickly pressed the button for the doctors to come in.

"What happened?" Alex asked, a little groggy.

"You saved my life." Kelly said as she took Alex's hand in her own.

"I can't feel my legs." Alex said, fear clear in her voice as she tried to move her legs, but couldn't feel them.

"Alex, when you threw yourself in front of that bullet for me, it perforated your spine." Kelly said nervously.

"Wait, I'm paralyzed?" Alex asked, tears coming to her eyes.

"Only for now. There's still a few operations and procedures the doctors have to do that might increase your chances of walking again, not to mention the fact that along with your sister's girlfriend and the guy from the future, thanks to Kara, we have access to nearly all of the smartest people on the planet. We'll find a way for you to walk again." Kelly promised as she took Alex's hand.

"How am I supposed to do my job from a wheelchair?" Alex asked.

"You'll find a way." Kelly said.

"Yeah right." Alex said, doubtful anyone would take her seriously as the director of the DEO if she was stuck in a wheelchair and she was thinking that she might as well resign now.

"Don't even think like that. You've never shied away from a challenge before in your life. Not when Kara came to live with you, not after your dad went missing, not while we were in the army, never. Don't start now." Kelly said, already knowing what was going through Alex's head.

"I don't know how though. And how long will it be before you decide you'd rather be with someone you don't have to spend every waking moment taking care of." Alex said.

"I'll save you the trouble of wondering that, because it won't ever happen. I'm not leaving your side. Especially since the only reason you're in this situation is because of me. You took that bullet that was meant for me." Kelly said.

"And I'd do it again. Just tell me they got the shooter?" Alex asked.

"Kara's already dropped them off at the precinct." Kelly said and Alex nodded.

"On a different topic, before everything went to hell, I remember you asked me a certain question." Alex said.

"Alex, don't worry about that now." Kelly said, thinking that now wasn't the right time for Alex to worry about that.

"No Kelly, I want to give you my answer now, since it's the same one I was going to give before that all happened. Yes, I will marry you. As long as I know that you're really in this for the long haul." Alex said.

"I am. And you're sure?" Kelly asked, wanting to make sure that Alex really was serious now.

"Yes." Alex said and Kelly smiled as she pulled the engagement ring out of her pocket, since she'd kept it with her after the shooting, since she'd come straight to the hospital, though she didn't think she'd be giving it to Alex until later.

"I'm not sure if I should put this on you until after you get discharged." Kelly said.

"You should not." Alex's doctor said as he entered the room to check on her.

"Now that Ms. Danvers is awake, we can begin discussing options for next steps." Dr. Willows said.

"How much will our insurance cover?" Alex asked, since she and Kelly did already have a shared insurance plan.

"Don't worry about cost. Lena Luthor and L-Corp are covering the expenses." Dr. Willows said and Alex smiled.

"Wait, I thought Lena was paying for it out of her own pocket." Kelly asked.

"I think she wanted to speak to you two about giving her company access to your medical records and so that your care can be transferred to L-Corp." Dr. Willows said.

"I'm all for that, since if anyone can get me walking again, it's her." Alex said, her faith in Lena already having been completely restored and she knew that if Lena could build a huge transmatter portal capable of transporting a Daxamite army to Earth or allow the entire population to escape the universe, she could find a way to help her walk again.

"I'll let her know you want to speak with her about this. And also, congratulations on your engagement." Dr. Willows said with a smile.

"Thank you." Kelly said, though she wished that she and Alex would get to celebrate their engagement properly, though they likely would not be able to do that for a while.

"I'll go let your family and other visitors know you're awake and I'll be back to check on you soon." Dr. Willows said as he walked out of her room.

"There are two things though Kelly." Alex said.

"Name them." Kelly said.

"First off, I don't want to have the wedding until I can actually walk down the aisle." Alex said and Kelly smiled, since she'd been expecting that.

"Done. What's the other thing?" Kelly asked.

"I want my dad there. Now we can truly free him from Cadmus so he can be at my wedding and at Kara's once she and Lena get serious enough to get that far." Alex said.

"You're really okay with the idea of your sister marrying a Luthor?" Kelly asked.

"Lena may have lost her way for a while, but she's found it again and I know that she and Kara will be very happy together." Alex said.

"I'll tell Kara she needs to hurry up and find him." Kelly said, since she understood Alex's desire to have her father at their wedding. Especially since Kelly's own father would be unable to attend since he had already passed away.
