"So you folks new to these parts?" Denny spoke up cheerfully as he drove down the road.

"Yes," Mom nodded. "We," she glanced back at me. "We uh are from Virginia and are moving to Crown City."

"Ah, Crown City is nice," With a shake of his head, Denny grinned. "I'll Always prefer the countryside though."

Me too. I silently agreed. There was something about being away from the busy streets-on your own-surrounded by nature–it was so peaceful.

Denny made a sharp turn down a dirt path with overhanging tree branches. All at once the forest opened up into a clearing. "We're here."

Climbing out of the car, I shut the door and gazed around. Piles of junk were littered about-stacks of cars-a small shed and diner-like building(?) lying on the edge of the clearing. My eyes widened as realization hit. Wait a minute. I looked at Denny. "Your shop is a junkyard?"

The man shook his head, laughing. "No, it's a vintage salvage depot for the discriminating nostalgist."

"So a junkyard," I muttered under my breath. Mom elbowed me and I ducked my head.

"I'll let the others know I'm here and then I'll go for your car," Denny explained as he set a large chain in the back of his pickup.

I tilted my head. "Others?"

Denny's eyes widened. "Oh, I-uh what I meant was-"

"Dad, the bot- '' The boy began before Denny abruptly cut him off with an enthusiastic pat on the back.

"Hey Rusty! I was just looking for you-we have guests," He turned and gestured at Mom and I. "Amanda, Y/N. This is my son-Russel Clay."

The boy's eyes widened slightly. "Oh," chuckling a little nervously he rubbed the back of his neck. "Hello."

"Nice to meet you Russell," Mom shook hands with the boy.

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you too," Rusty shook her hand back.

It might have been just me, but I thought I saw the boy shoot a look at Denny who seemed to shake his head ever so slightly.

Mom elbowed me and I was startled out of my thoughts. Hastily I held my hand out, "How do you do Rusty?"

"Uh, I'm fine," Rusty shook my hand. I noticed something still seemed off about him and his dad-they both seemed...on edge.

"Well," Denny abruptly clasped his hands together. "I'm going with Amanda to go pick up their car and bring it here so I can try to fix it," he explained to his son. "Why don't you take Y/N and see if she wants something to eat?"
