Arkham Asylum is a place where the deranged, Crazy maniacs live to change themselves, and Harleen Quinzel isn't one to change. Until, she met Mr. J, as in, Joker.
After telling her his backstory of betrayal, death, and rebirth, Joker takes Harleen to Ace Chemicals, where he throws her in the chemicals, turning her into Harley Quinn.
Joker: "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, peons of all ages, I now present to you, the new HARLEY QUINN!!!
[one epic entrance later.]
Harley Quinn: "Alright! Hold on to your butts, Gotham, 'cuz the new and improved Harley Quinn is ready for her epic entrance!"
