Charlie: I know... I just don't know how to stop it
He's tearing up and his voice shakes. I feel myself shaking as well, partially because I'm upset for my best friend and partially because of anger at Ben, and a little at myself for letting charlie go with him even though he was friends with Harry.
Y/N: Ben wants you to think that you can't do anything about it but in actuality, you have the upper hand here
Charlie: how?
Y/N: If you break up with him, what can he realistically do about it?
Charlie: I don't know... bad things
Y/N: he knows he wouldn't get away with doing anything to you because he knows me and Nick know about you two
Charlie: hmm... maybe
He doesn't seem convinced and he's still looking at the ground
Y/N: charlie you can do this, I know you can
Charlie: what do I say to him?
Y/N: tell him he's a controlling, gaslighting knob and you're done
Charlie laughs a little
Y/N: im serious! Whats he Gonna do about it? Get Harry to beat you up? Not likely considering what he thinks nick would do to him if he did.
Charlie: I guess... ok. I'll do it.
Y/N: thank god, because that relationship was only gonna get more toxic as time went on, he would've gained more and more control over you and that would've caused a ridiculous amount of issues
I look over Charlie's shoulder as he begins to type out the message
*charlies text*
Charlie: Ben, when we first met you were really sweet but since then you've become toxic, controlling and cruel and I'm done with whatever we have. Pretending not to know in public me is bad enough but then to use me for nothing but kissing is disgusting. And I'm done with it. Don't bother trying to do anything about it or stop me because we both know there's nothing you can do.
*irl*
Charlie: sent.
I hug him tight and say In his ear
Y/N: I'm SO proud of you
Charlie smiles
Y/N: Cmon, the others will be wondering where we are
Me and Charlie walk back to the table and tao looks up
Tao: THERE YOU TWO ARE
Nicks mum: I was starting to get worried
There's a general murmur of agreement from the table
Charlie: sorry we uhh... got caught up chatting...
He looks at me and smiles and smile back. I mean, technically we were chatting, just, about toxic boys instead of anything else.
Elle: wellll now everyone's back
She looks at tao
