That sensation you get when you hold sand grains in your palms as they gently and steadily glide through your fingers. It all starts with a little carelessness with your hands; being too lethargic to grip tightly. The granules then begin to slip one by one, one by one. It happens so quickly that we don't notice when we're left with nothing but an empty fist.
You may suppose that the same can be said for the most beautiful moments in our lives; they pass so swiftly that we fail to appreciate their value, to grasp the amount to which they can affect us.

Damon's time with Nyx was something he yearned for; she was someone he yearned for. He figured he'd never find the wholeness she gave him anywhere else. They went from barely knowing each other at all to being great friends, and eventually more than friends, discovering new ways to live. They noticed that when one door closes, another one opens. They learned that crossing paths with someone who is yearning for love, caring, and hope can heal both souls. They realised they needed each other just as much.

But, most importantly, they found that truth isn't the only thing that holds a relationship together; occasionally, beautiful lies told with care may kindle the same magic.

On their path of getting to know each other, befriending each other, and eventually becoming lovers, they encountered and learned new things. That was something Damon will never forget.

He stood there, his fist full of mud, on her grave, watching as they dropped the casket into the ground.
Nyx, he reasoned, will soon become one with nature, slipping away from him.
Soon, the youthful spirit that died unaware of his identity will drift away into the skies in search of tranquilly. But none of that mattered to him any longer. Nothing could ever make him feel better. It was all his fault, according to him. It was his fault that she sat there in a black gown, a velvet-colored scar on her forehead detracting from her beauty. It was his fault that she was being dropped into the earth for all eternity.
And he'd never forgive himself for it.

Valentino stood close to Landon, quietly crying, while Damon stood there, nearly numb. That's what worried Landon.
Damon cried not a single tear. He stood still, much as the day he couldn't believe his eyes. Landon was finding it difficult to deal with both Valentino, who couldn't stop crying, and Damon, who wouldn't shed a tear, after Dominique and Lawrence had expressed their sympathies in the chapel earlier.
The priest soon concluded his prayers and asked everyone to drop in the mud.

Damon took a step forward, emptied his palm, and watched as Sapphira, Hazel, and Isaiah took theirs.

Uncontrollable wrath welled up within him, and he pushed forward, yelling, "You don't deserve to be here! What happened when she needed you? You have no business being here!" Landon gripped Damon tightly, whispering to him to stay calm.

Could he, though? Could he keep his cool?

"Shhhh...shhhh Damon..It's fine..." he tried.

"No! It's not acceptable! It'll never be fine!" Damon eventually sobbed, and Landon watched as his best friend sank to his knees and cried out Nyx's name. With gentle sobbing, he felt like he'd been sent back to square one, but this time it was Damon's fault.

"How could she leave me in this way, Landon? After everything we've been through together! How!"

Valentino couldn't take it any longer and simply went out of the yard, towards the van. Sapphira, Hazel, and Isaiah followed in his footsteps.

It was eventually Damon's turn to leave.
After another look at the gravestone, he said, "I guess I'll never know why you called me Angel." and went out with Landon.

He may have been an angel to her
But she was the one with wings.

So our story ends here
It has been fulfilling
I'll miss you terribly
I'll leave you- lovingly
Until the next life.
