I didn't know what to do.I was too scared to touch him again. He just laid on the ground...Motionless.After what felt like hours of starring at him,I pulled out my phone. The phone rang a few times before my mom answered.

"Hello?"

"Mom!Are you with Grandma?"I probably sounded like I was about to die.

"Yes.What"s wrong?"She sounded worried.

Before I could think of an excuse, one was already flowing out of my mouth."One of her dolls is in my pocket and I thought that she would really need it.Can you send her to the park?Fast!"Grandma was right. That happened fast.

"Okay...She'll be there soon."

"Thanks."I hung up the phone.I turned to loo at Jase.He was still lying face down on the grass.I didn't want to hurt him,so I layed down beside him.Eventually,my grandma showed up.She didn't look shocked at all.

"You broke him already?"She looked annoyed.

"Grandma...I feel aweful...Can you fix him?"

"Oh,I suppose...First,I have a request."

"Anything!"I was desperate.

"That girl that you're friends with...The writer..Have her come here.Now."She got down on her knees to examine Jase."Oh!I'm too old for this..."She looked at me."What are you waiting for?Call her!"I started getting my phone out and dialing her number. She answered on the last ring.

"Oh,so now you decide not to ignore me?What's wrong?Jase gone or something?"She sounded really mad.

"Deb,listen to me.I'm sorry that I've been ignoring you. This is really important. As in life or death.Come to the park. Now!"

"Be there in five."The phone disconnected. When I turned around,Grandma was pulling all sorts of huge books out of her big old woman purse and flipping to different pages.I watched her do that until Debby ran up to us.

"What happened?!"She was out of breath.I opened my mouth to explain, but nothing came out.I couldn't talk about it.

"He isn't a real boy.Here."Grandma handed Debby a pencil."You're a writer."Debby looked confused, but she sat down next to Grandma and listened to what she told her to do.I couldn't hear what they were saying, and I didn't really care.I just wanted him to be fixed.About 30 minutes later, they both stepped away and Jase was sitting up.His eyes almost immediately met mine.

"That was pretty good.Good job."Debby whiped beads of sweat from her forehead.

"You didn't do so bad yourself, girly."Grandma walked over to me."He'll explain everything.Just don't be suprised."She whispered.

Debby came up to me next."Your grandma explained everything.I know you couldn't,even if you tried to.Just do me a favor and never ignore me like that again."She walked away after whispering that to me.I looked back to Jase, who was looking at me like I was about to kill him.I walked over to him and sat down by him.

"You hate me."He said.

"No.I don't hate you.I hate the fact that you never told me.What if I hurt you worse?"Tears were welling up in my eyes.

"Don't cry.Just listen.I'll explain everything.Well,for starters,I'm not human.I'm a product of your sketching and your grandmother's magic.My skin isn't made of what yours is.Mine's made of paper.My blood isn't blood.It's ink."He looked at his hands.

"How can you touch me if you're made of paper and ink?"I wiped a tear away.

"I know how hard to touch things.I had to be extremely gentle when I kissed you.It hurt, but it was worth it.If I pick something up,my hands automatically get four more layers of paper surrounding them to make sure that the object doesn't break my skin opened."

"So,you're never going to be able to touch me?"Another tear escaped my eye.

"As long as you're human,no.Why?Did you want me to?"He smiled.

"Don't flatter yourself!"I got up."I just don't want to look like an idiot, being the only one not dancing with her date at the dance!"He looked a little hurt."Come on.It's getting dark.Let's go home."
