Chapter 5: It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist

3rd Person POV

"Welcome to New York City!" Gary announces as Sara, Ava, Behrad, and Brooklyn with Maddie exit through the door. "Legends, we made it!"

"Thanks, we heard you the first time." Sara says

"And every other time." Ava says

"I appreciated all your updates." Behrad tells Gary

"Uh, Nate and Zari aren't coming?" Gary asks, noticing that they were missing. "What are they doing? Did they say something?"

"Hoover-Bot's still stonewalling us, so they're tinkering, trying to figure out who sent him. Why are you so concerned?" Sara asks

"I'm not concerned." Gary says. "I'm just, you know, emotionally invested in their love story."

"I can't believe we're finally in New York!" Behrad exclaims as the group walks through an alley. "We're so close to getting a time machine and going home."

"Okay, first, we got to find Dr. Gwyn Davies." Sara says. "So let's get a city map, yeah?"

"Can we also please find some pizza or something that's not John's whiskey?" Ava asks

"Yeah, some of us are hungry." Brooklyn says, gesturing to herself and Maddie

"Ooh! I saw an ice-cream stand near the park." Gary says

"Oh, I could go for some ice cream." Brooklyn says

"Oh, I miss classic New York pizza." Behrad says as the group stands next to a magazine stand with pizza and ice cream in hand. Brooklyn and Maddie are sitting on a nearby bench, Brooklyn having just cut up some pizza for Maddie to eat. "It's all squash blossoms and cauliflower crust in 2044."

"Yeah. Why couldn't John's manor dimension have had unlimited Pizza Shack?" Ava asks

"Manor dimension? 2044? Pizza Shack?" The man behind the counter asks. "Where... where are you kids from?"

At this question, Brooklyn freezes and looks over at the group, a hand on Maddie's shoulder just in case a quick escape was needed

"Oh, um, we're just tourists from...Uh, Canada, eh?" Ava makes up. "Sorry, how much do we owe you?"

"You're not Canadians. Canadians are good people. You're outlaws. And I'm gonna stop you!" The man exclaims, grabbing his gun and shooting Sara

Sara is sent flying backwards as Behrad activates his powers to fight. Brooklyn grabs Maddie, throwing her daughter inside her jacket and covering the young girl's head with her hand as she leaps over the bench to get to cover

Behrad blasts the man backwards as Ava rushes over to Sara to help her. Sara stands with Ava's help, her bullet wound healing itself

"Okay, I'm fine. I got the map. Let's just get to the manor." Sara pants out and the group rushes away

Zari and Nate are eating donuts when the rest of the group walks in

"Oh, my God, Sara!" Zari exclaims, seeing the bullet hole in Sara's dress

"I'm fine." Sara says. "We got too casual, forgot the Bullet Blondes are still front-page news. Not gonna happen again."

"Yes, you might be fine, but I'm finding it very hard to erase the image of my wife being shot by a trigger-happy local." Ava says

"Sounds more like a patriot to me." Hoover-Bot says

"Can we mute him?" Behrad asks. "I can't deal with his negative energy right now."
