Chris has been in Virginia all week and I miss my man. Some drunk driver accidentally ran their car into the shop, so he's been there helping his team and getting things in order.
I've been staying with Melanie on the nights she's not at Mario's, which is rare.

"You look so lost" she laughed, coming into the kitchen

"Shut up. I miss my baby." I poked at my cereal before eating a spoonful

"Y'all talk on the phone everyday."

"It's not the same." I leaned against the counter

"Cheer up, Buttercup." She pat my shoulder

I sucked my teeth and pursed my lips. "I'm about to head to work."

"Ok. Oh I ain't gone be here tonight, me and Mario taking the kids to the carnival."

"Aww that's sweet."

"Yeah I'm digging the stepmom life." She grinned

Her phone rang and she answered, immediately looking panicked. "Ok, I'll be there in a few." She said before hanging up

"What's wrong?"

"Dad had a heart attack." She grabbed her keys

"I'll meet you up there."

I want to take my car just so I can head to work after checking on him.

I was so anxious driving over to the hospital. I know we aren't on the best of terms, but he's still my dad and I'll always have love for him. That applies to both my parents, we have our differences, but I don't wish them any ill will.

"Hey, how is he?" Melanie asked as we walked over to my mom

"The doctors aren't telling me anything." She sobbed

"Ok, sit down. I'll go talk to them."

I sat down with my mom, handing her some tissues. "How'd this happen?"

"It could be a number of things, but most likely them cigarettes." She shook her head

"I thought he quit."

"He started back about two years ago."

"Oh." I simply replied

"Yeah, you would've known that if you were talking to us."

"Really ma'?" I rolled my eyes

"I'm just telling the truth. If you wouldn't have shut us out-"

"Now ain't the time for all that." Melanie walked over "Dad's in surgery."

"Surgery? Ain't nobody told me nothin!" My mom dramatically shrieked

Mel sucked her teeth "Ma, calm down. They said he should be out in an hour."
