The 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, as the sun hung low in the desert sky, casting a warm golden hue over the Yas Marina Circuit, emotions ran high in the Alpine garage.

Oscar Piastri wandered through the Alpine garage with a hint of nostalgia tugging at his heartstrings. This was his last day here as a reserve driver. Tomorrow, he would be donning the iconic papaya colours of McLaren, ready to make his debut as a full-fledged Formula 1 driver in the next season. The excitement was palpable, but so was the bittersweet feeling that lingered in the air.

Oscar couldn't help but reflect on his journey with the Alpine team. It had been a rollercoaster of a ride, marked by moments of sheer exhilaration and bitter disappointment. The team had been like a second family to him, guiding him through the labyrinthine world of Formula 1, nurturing his talent, and helping him grow as a driver. But there had also been moments of disillusionment, clashes of ambition and ego that had left scars on the once-unbreakable bond between driver and team.

"I am looking for a certain Mister Piastri," a voice came from behind him. Oscar turned around, his eyes meeting those of his best friend.

"Mae, what are you doing here?" Oscar asked, a mix of surprise and delight in his voice.

"I am here to celebrate three months of Oscar being a baddie," Maeve replied with a mischievous grin, her eyes twinkling with amusement.

Oscar shook his head, still slightly taken aback. "Mae, what are you doing here?" he repeated as if trying to make sense of her unexpected appearance.

"I am here to watch you," Maeve said, her tone playfully mysterious. Oscar chuckled softly. "I'm a reserve driver, Mae. I don't drive."

Maeve simply shrugged, her presence a delightful mystery. Oscar took a deep breath, considering his options. Then he leaned in, lowering his voice.

"Paddock club?" Oscar offered, knowing that Maeve had a penchant for the finer things in life.

Maeve's eyes lit up, and she nodded eagerly. "Walk me?"

Oscar extended his elbow, and Maeve graciously wrapped her arm around it, linking them together. They began to walk through the bustling paddock area.

As Oscar and Maeve ambled through the bustling paddock area, the vibrant energy of the Formula 1 world surrounding them, Oscar couldn't resist his curiosity. He glanced at Maeve with a playful grin and said, "I know you like spending money on things, but you're not a splurger, so will you tell me what brings you to Abu Dhabi out of all places?"

Maeve chuckled, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "I spoke to Nicole last week," she began, referring to Oscar's mother. "She said you weren't going home home until Christmas, so I came here to give you a family for the weekend."

Oscar raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "So, where are the children?" he asked, teasingly.

Maeve shot him a mock serious look and retorted, "Well, when are you giving them to me?"

They both burst into laughter, their easy banter a testament to the comfort and familiarity of their friendship.

After a moment, Oscar gazed at Maeve with a mixture of gratitude and affection. "Mum's in NYC for work, and I was going to be alone in london until your mum told me you were going to stay here for your testing with McLaren," Maeve explained. "So, I thought I could spend it with you."

Oscar nodded, appreciating the gesture. "London? What about uni?" he inquired. Maeve shrugged. "I have a break. "

"You could have gone to France and watched Archie play, he actually has a spot on the team," Oscar said, curious about her decision.

Maeve shook her head, a playful smile on her lips. "And what, third-wheel with him and Kiera? No thank you, I am good."

Oscar chuckled, knowing that Maeve had a knack for avoiding situations that might make her feel like an intruder. "How did you arrange tickets within a week?" he asked, genuinely impressed by her resourcefulness.

Maeve shrugged nonchalantly. "I have a mum and her contacts," she replied with a wink.

As they continued their conversation, they arrived at their destination. "Here's your stop," Oscar said as they reached the entrance to the paddock club.

Maeve turned to him, a glint of mischief in her eyes. "Watch the race with me?" she asked a hint of hope in her voice.

Oscar's expression turned regretful. "Can't, gotta stay in the garage," he replied, a tinge of disappointment in his tone.

For a moment, they simply stared at each other, Then, Oscar pulled Maeve into a warm, heartfelt hug.

"Thank you," he mumbled into her hair, his gratitude genuine.

Maeve rolled her eyes affectionately. "Don't be sappy, Ossie," she teased.

"Dinner afterwards?" Maeve asked, pulling away from the hug.

Oscar's face lit up with enthusiasm. "Yes, for sure. I went to this restaurant yesterday; it was amazing. I'll take you there," he said.

"Great, see you later then," Maeve replied with a grin, her eyes filled with anticipation for their dinner together.

With a final wave, Oscar headed off towards the bustling garage, and Maeve made her way into the paddock club.
