The next morning, (y/n) was comfortably lying on their bed, drawing, when they heard the phone ring in the hallway. They quickly got up and hurried over to it, while informing their mother with a short "I'll get it!", so that she didn't have to come up the stairs. "Yeah hello? It's (y/n)," they said after picking up the phone and listening curiously to find out who had called. After a brief moment of silence, a voice familiar to them spoke up, mumbling a little meekly: "H-hey (y/n)... um, this is Kennith.. You know, the boy from yesterday, at the gas station...", and (y/n) had to grin a little. "Yeah, I think I remember... What's up?" "O-oh umm nothing special actually... I just thought you.. W-well I uhh...", the boy tried to find the right words, which only made (y/n) grin even more.

Finally Kennith sighed annoyed and explained: "I'm bored, okay? I just don't have anyone to talk to, and that's when your number fell into my hands again, and I thought... I dunno, maybe you'd like to meet somewhere or something..." (Y/n) was silent for a moment, more in joy than in thought, but of course the boy on the other end of the line immediately said: "If ya don't feel like it, just say so! It's okay really, it was just an idea..." "Are you kidding?!", the (girl/boy/o) asked gleefully, perhaps a bit too gleefully, and they immediately cleared their throat and continued in a normal tone: "Umm I mean... Yeah sure I'm up for it. I don't have anything better to do anyway, sooo... uhm.. Do you know this new ice cream store near the marketplace? I heard it's pretty good, maybe we could meet there? Like in half an hour?" "Sure" "Okay then... see you soon!", (y/n) said goodbye to Kennith who hung up the phone after a short "...yes".

The (girl/boy/o) did the same and didn't really know if they should be happy or unsettled now. During this farewell it had actually sounded like Kennith had much more exciting things to do than to meet with them, but on the other hand.. he had called them after all, so from there... (Y/n) decided not to think about it too much and get ready for the meeting instead.

Kennith was at the appointed place at the appointed time, unsure how he had ended up in this situation in the first place. He would have liked to leave immediately and to just go home, away from all the people who, as always, gave him strange looks. Why on earth did he think that the (girl/boy/o) with whom he had argued yesterday would treat him differently, let alone understand him??

He was so lost in thought that he didn't even notice how someone sneaked up behind his back and stood behind him. In the next moment, two cold hands were already on his shoulders and a voice softly breathed "Boo!" in his ear. Kennith stumbled forward a bit startled and immediately turned around, hissing loudly: "HEY WHAT THE FU-", but then he realized that it was only (y/n) who had frightened him. They were laughing their head off because of his reaction, which would usually annoy the pink-haired boy, but when he heard their laugh, all anger was suddenly blown away. He didn't really know why, but he actually saw not being angry or annoyed as a positive thing, so he decided not to think about it and just leave it at that.

After (y/n) had calmed down a bit, the two went to the ice cream parlor (for the record, (y/n) ordered a stracciatella ice cream and Kennith a strawberry ice cream), and now they were walking through the streets of their neighborhood together. They hadn't even agreed on where to go, Kennith had just instinctively taken a path away from the crowded marketplace, and (y/n) had followed. They themself weren't really a fan of large crowds, so that was just fine with them. Which wasn't to say that the streets here were deserted, though.

Some children were playing in the front yards of the apartment buildings, some adults were walking their dogs or going jogging. But something seemed different to (y/n) than usual. It took them a while to understand what it was: Almost all the people they passed stared at Kennith with that special look that said 'Eww, you're different, you don't belong here!' (Y/n) knew that look all too well and they carefully looked over at the boy next to them to see if it bothered him in any way. In fact, Kennith was looking around quite glumly, his brow was furrowed in deep creases and his posture also looked anything but confident. Since the two teenagers had actually been silent the whole time, (y/n) decided to address him about it without further ado, and briefly considered how they should begin without immediately appearing rude or insensitive.

All these people with their stupid looks got on Kennith's nerves so much, sometimes he really wished he could let them disappear from his field of vision all at once. Just let them disappear, so that only he alone was left. No one could then look at him askance or put him down like they usually liked to do. "Kind of sucks, doesn't it? Having people stare at you stupidly all the time?" Kennith looked over at (y/n) in surprise, but they just looked straight ahead with a smile and seemed to be waiting for his answer. "Yeah.. it does... it really sucks...", the pink-haired boy muttered after a moment of thought and also looked straight ahead again.

He actually expected that (y/n) would say something to cheer him up, like that they would understand him or something, but they didn't. And somehow that still gave the boy the feeling that they did understand him. Like really. Stephanie had always assured him that she would understand him too, but that had only annoyed Kennith, because he knew that she couldn't even understand him at all. After all, she was popular with everyone, had caring parents and was generally quite different from him. That had been the reason why the two had fallen out after all...
