Towards early evening Kennith and (y/n) were hanging out at the old playground again, and somehow they had gotten onto the typical topic of how they imagined their future. Another thing Kennith liked about (y/n) was that they didn't ask him about his past in any way, but focused only on the present and future. In return, they didn't really talk much about their own past, but when they had said that their old life in New Jersey had been 'too noisy', Kennith had already understood what they had meant by that and had therefore decided not to ask further.
"So... I think my dream would be to have some kind of job where I can be creative after school, like an author or a musician. Just the thought of possibly being a clerk in some dark drab office makes me shudder!", (y/n) explained with a wrinkled nose and Kennith said with a grin: "Would suit ya actually, after all you wear almost only gray and black!" "Sorry my clothes didn't get dipped in a bucket of paint like yours!", (y/n) joked back and the two of them laughed briefly before the (girl/boy/o) asked curiously: "So how about you? What are your plans for the future?" "I'd like to know that too...", Kennith murmured softly and (y/n) looked at him slightly confused. "Are you saying you don't know what you want to do yet? You know that you don't have too much time left to decide, right?" "Oh god please stop, you sound just like my parents!", the pink-haired boy groaned and put his head back to stare at the sky lost in thought.
He wasn't sure how he could explain to (y/n) as gently as possible that he really only saw black for his future and didn't bother to rack his brain about it either. "All this talk about the future is totally unnecessary. They keep telling us teenagers that we have to prepare for the big world out there, but what's the point if we're all going to drop dead anyway?", Kennith asked in a monotone voice and before (y/n) could object he added: "I don't have a plan what I want to be someday anyway, so why think about it anymore?"
"Actually, you should think about it just because you don't have a plan! But I think I know what you mean, until now we've only concentrated on school, we've always had some kind of security. Well, unless you screw up and get kicked out of school. But soon we won't have that security anymore and we'll be on our own, and then we're also supposed to find a job that we kind of enjoy? Sounds almost impossible, don't you think?", (y/n) asked, wrapping a strand of hair around their finger, also lost in thought. "Yeah, kinda...", Kennith answered with a slight sigh, after which they both fell silent again.
"But... yesterday you told me that you like to deal with technology, right? Maybe that could be part of your job someday! Maybe you'll become a technician or a designer for new technical devices or...", at this point (y/n) jumped off their swing and stood in front of Kennith with their arms spread out before they continued: "...even a moderator on radio or TV!" "Yeah right, moderator...", Kennith said with irony in his voice, but (y/n) grinned broadly and picked up a small stick from the ground, which they now held in their hand like a microphone and spoke into it in an overly enthusiastic voice: "And now ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming our top moderator: Kennith Simmons! Mister Simmons, is there anything you want to say to our dear viewers today?"
Now they held the branch in front of Kennith's face with a grin, and after a brief are-u-serious?-look the boy cleared his throat and replied in a pompous voice: "Yeah so maybe you should stop staring at your stupid screens and go fuck yourselves instead, thank you very much." "There you have it dear viewers, now if you don't mind please immediately turn off your TVs and go fuck yourselves. But remember to tune in again soon for more exciting news!", (y/n) said in their best moderator voice and a sweeping gesture, taking great effort not to burst out laughing as they spoke. This in turn made Kennith giggle which turned into loud laughter a little later as (y/n) continued to prance around with the stick in their hand, spouting nonsense in that enthusiastic voice.
"See? At least this job doesn't seem so bad anymore now!", (y/n) finally laughed and threw the stick away before sitting down again on the swing next to Kennith. "Yeah, it doesn't seem so bad anymore, but whether it really is is another matter...", the pink-haired boy said with the grin disappearing from his face again. (Y/n) sighed slightly at his comment, but said nothing. Probably because the boy was actually right. The professional life was certainly not easy, but in their opinion one should not lose hope because of that. But they knew that it made no sense to tell Kennith that, because probably his parents had already explained it to him a dozen times. So they just left it at that and talked with Kennith about something else until the sun slowly set and they said goodbye to each other.
"See you tomorrow then!", Kennith said and was about to turn around to go home, but (y/n) quickly stopped him: "Hey wait! Unfortunately I already have other plans for tomorrow, friends are coming over for dinner and my mother insists that I be there." They sighed slightly at the last sentence and rolled their eyes meaningfully. "O-oh sure... Then um.. see you the days?", Kennith quickly said goodbye, trying to hide the disappointment in his voice. "Yeah sure, see you then!", (y/n) called after him, but by then the boy had already turned around and was walking fast down the street towards his home. He couldn't help but feel a little sting when he left (y/n) standing there, but if he had stayed longer they probably would have noticed how disappointed he was. And Kennith for sure needed that the least of all. He didn't really understand why it bothered him that the (girl/boy/o) didn't have time for him tomorrow, it was quite normal that they also had other plans than meeting him. Kennith shook his head slightly to stop himself from thinking about it, but he didn't really succeed...
