𝐀𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐚 sat silently at the old table, eating a bowl of left-over meat stew from last night. Mallory was at school, Maude was sleeping. For once, the house was silent. It wasn't a comforting silence, though, like the one Aurora had grown accustomed to. This silence was deafening. Eerie, almost, and she couldn't shake off the feeling like she was being watched.
After finishing the small meal, she washed the bowl and decided to go outside. Heading upstairs and grabbing a book off of her night-stand, she tucked it under her arm and walked back downstairs. Treading carefully along the creaky steps as to not awaken her mother. She gave Maude a kiss on the forehead, before slowly opening the door.
The weather was usually unpredictable in this small town, and today the sun shone brightly and radiated with warmth. She shut her eyes tightly and smiled, letting the sun wash over her skin. It was quiet, calming days like this, that suited her palate. She enjoyed the warmth, the nostalgic feeling it brought.
She walked towards the forest, the soft wind blowing gently through her strawberry blonde strands. To her surprise, the sun shone onto a patch of beautiful wild Geranimums, bringing them to her attention. She got down onto her knees slowly and began collecting the purple flowers, tucking them into the waist-band of her dress. It was moments like this that made her grateful for living surrounded by nature.
A loud rustling noise came from the tree next to her, and she chose to ignore it, thinking that it's probably a bird or a squirrel.

There she was. As beautiful and enchanting as ever. Her soft, milky skin, sparkled slightly as the sun hit it. Her figure was hugged perfectly by the long, flowing dress. I wanted nothing more in that moment, than to jump down from my hiding place and sink my teeth into her pale flesh. Imagining her sweet, metallic blood pouring down my throat and coating my mouth, made me almost lose my stability. My foot almost slid off of the branch, and I grabbed one of the tree branches above me for support, causing the leaves to rustle.
Luckily, she never looked up. A part of me wants her to look up, however. I want her to see me. I want her to hear me. I want to hear her sweet, smooth voice. If she called my name, it would sound like honey coming from her soft lips.
I knew I had to keep my identity hidden for the time-being, though. My long, black hair, cowered over my forehead as I watched her intently. She looked so innocent, so pure, curled up with her book in her hand whilst she fidgeted with the flowers in her dress. The face she made when she focused, absolutely melted my heart. Her eyes were slightly widened, and her pillowy lips were parted.
Part of me wants to believe that she wouldn't fear me. But, after all, I am a monster. I sigh quietly and run a hand through my hair, pushing it back.
I had been watching her for weeks. I imagined myself curled up next to her, our skin touching, reading from the same book. My brothers were growing suspicions, wondering where I was from dusk 'till dawn. I wouldn't allow them to know about her. I don't want another man to even look at her, and I know how my brothers can be. I can barely control myself around her.
A few hours had passed, and she began packing herself up. She stumbled slightly as she stood up, her legs probably numb from sitting down for so long. I smirk as I watch her, and I imagine her stumbling into me. Those big green eyes staring up at me, her smaller frame colliding with my much bigger one. I waited for her to leave, before jumping off of the tree and dusting myself off.
I crouched down to the patch of grass she was sat in, and ran my fingers through the coarse greenery. "How peculiar." I mutter to myself, before standing up and walking through the rest of the forest.
I spot a deer in the distance, and began walking towards it sneakily, hiding behind a large bush. Once the deer comes in clear view, I pounce at it and sink my fangs into its neck. The deer makes no effort to fight back, or even run away, and its body slowly falls limp. Once the deer collides with the rough ground, I stand back and wipe the blood from my mouth, humming in satisfaction.
I had given up biting humans after observing the girl. Perhaps if all humans had pure hearts like her, I would've given it up completely. My brothers on the other hand were not as compassionate as me. They viewed humans as meals, and nothing else. 'What a crude way to think.' I thought to myself, as I began making my way back home. I lived with my three brothers, and my step-brother, in the abandoned castle near the forest.
The humans thought it was abandoned, at least. Simple-minded creatures who cannot fathom the concept of someone living differently than them. My girl isn't like that, I'm sure. She's kind, understanding. She loves animals, and nature, and enjoys little pleasures like reading. In fact, if she had seen my interaction with that deer, she wouldn't forgive me. "Perhaps she would let me feed off of her, in order to save the animals." I murmured to myself, smirking widely.
It's rare to find people like that. I'd never seen anyone like her. Someone so uniquely themselves, so perfect, so pure. I was going to do everything in my power to protect her from the cruelness of the world.
