The Cosmos

Every day I wake up
To gather the broken pieces
Of my unwanted world
And take them out
To mend
In a universe even more broken

They told me to aim for stars
Everything is within grasp
Now I gasp in my panic attack
A meteor thrust into my atmosphere
Reality is realized

I'm older now
They knock me down to size
They ignore my aged cries
I look up at the sky and wonder why

My world crumbles at their feet
They grind me in with the dirt They choose not to see our hurt
As they race for space
And swim in seas of diamonds

The only thing I'm surrounded by
Are the cries and exhausted sighs
Of the people just like me
The forgotten community
With screams too quiet to reach the universe.
