Vettriana's life in the manor had been filled with learning, practice, and exploration. She had amassed a vast collection of spells, far beyond what she initially learned as a young child. Her skills and knowledge had grown immensely over the years. However, the shadow of her separation from Abby and Merlin cast a deep sadness over her heart.

She couldn't help but feel that her world had become smaller and more isolated. The once-bustling village and her old life felt like distant memories. While she had Kauis and Drakewyrm by her side, there was still an emptiness that persisted in her. The hope of ever reuniting with her aunt and Merlin had slowly faded over the years.

In the dining area, the sky is already black evening and the only light they have is the chandeliers that were faint. She faces her grandfather who is a few meters away due to their extravagant long table that suits only in parties. The only noise was their kitchen utensils clicking together at their plate.

For 17 winters, the same sound, same atmosphere around them were no longer threatening. Until, "Vettriana, art thou prepared?" This caused her to knit her eyebrows together.

Vettriana looked at her grandfather with a perplexed expression as she heard his question. The clicking of kitchen utensils ceased for a moment, and the otherwise familiar and almost comfortable atmosphere now felt tense. She put down her utensils and slowly responded, "Prepared for what, Snr Laylâk?"

Her grandfather's gaze bore into her, as he responded, "Prepared for the role thou must assume in the realm of Malphas. 'Tis time to embrace thy destiny, Vettriana." His words held a weight that sent a shiver down her spine, and she knew that her life was about to change once again.

"And what does that mean?" Her voice is no longer hesitant to ask for back then, she couldn't predict him. She knows what he is saying. It doesn't strike her interest at those.

Snr Laylâk regarded her with a stern and inscrutable expression. "It means, my dear, that the time has come for thee to embrace thy destiny as a Malphas. Thou hast learned much, but now 'tis time for thee to put thy loyalty to the test," he replied, his voice carrying a weight of expectation.

Vettriana took in his words, her expression still reflecting her uncertainty. She had been preparing herself for this moment, but the realization that it had arrived still sent a shiver down her spine.

It means it is time to take someone's life. A random person she has never known will be at her mercy. Over the years, Laylâk had trained her for everything, I mean everything. At the age of 7, he gave her a small dose of Wolfsbane poison that went unnoticed at first, but it gradually increased. She learned to resist the poison by controlling her heartbeat.

She was subjected to near-drowning experiences, with Laylâk ordering Kauis to record her progress each time she stayed submerged. She managed to last 4 minutes underwater, although Kauis would wince whenever she panicked below the surface.
