I was an engineer for a huge tech company in South Korea, we were working on a few new projects but I only had interest in one Project 143

Project 143 was supposed to be a AI programmed life size personal companion, it was designed to look like a human and mimic human interaction to make people with social anxiety work on interacting with others but they wanted to see if we were able to make a software that would allow people to develop intimate relationships

I was assigned to the project at the very beginning but recently I've became obsessed with it

Y/n: hello everyone I'm so excited to be here today

E: hey Ms.Y/L/N we did the research you requested

Y/n: thank you guys I'll look over it before I start testing

Last month we've Sent project 143 to design and cosmetics to see what he'd look like , I've designed it to look like an adult version of someone I knew when I was a child he's name was jeongin so we called the robot I.N

I said looking at I.N almost getting teary eyed , he saw beautiful and he look just like jeongin or what I'd imagine he'd look like now

S: he looks cool , but I'm more handsome

One of the scientists seungmin said as we all observed I.N . The cosmetic team deserves every raise just from the amount of details put into it

Y/n: Ok we should start the first round of test

I said going to set up the test room multiple other scientists followed my lead and made sure everything was set up for our test

Y/n: I'm ready

I sat down in front of I.N and signaled for everyone to step out , we were testing human interaction for the last time

Y/n: I.N wake up

I said powering on the robot , he fluttered his eyes open before looking around until his eyes finally landed on me

I.N: hello y/n how may I assist you ?

Y/n: I just wanted to talk

I.n: that's great , I enjoy talking

Y/n: enjoy? What are other things you enjoy ?

I.n: I enjoy music , do you want me to play you a song from your playlist

I chuckled at him and he smiled in amusement

Y/n: yeah sure

He shut his eyes and played "permission to dance " and I smiled it was one of my favorites and I couldn't help but to dance

Y/n: can you dance with me ?

He acted like he was thinking about it before answering me

I.n: yes I know how to dance

He said doing the renegade dance making me laugh even harder , once the song finished he open his eyes and looked at me

I.n: I enjoy your laugh and your smile too

Y/n: well thank you I.n , you cheered me up

I.n: is there something bothering you?

Y/n: no you just remind me of an old friend

I.n: your sad , I can tell

Y/n: well today's his birthday but I haven't seen him in a while it just makes me miss him

I.N: well I am here for you , just know you can tell me anything and I'll help you

Y/n: yeah i know I.N

He pulled me in to a hug and embraced me

Y/n: your cold

I.N: I apologize, I do not have a heating system

Y/n: it's ok we'll fix that for you

I.N: thank you y/n , I love you

He said taking me off guard

Y/n: do you know what love is ?

I.N: I do , It's a bond that often involves understanding each other's core values, beliefs, and life goals. A willingness to prioritize another's well-being or happiness above your own. Extreme feelings of attachment, affection, and need.

Y/n: and you feel that you love me ?

I.n: yes ,I am programmed to love aren't I?

Y/n: you are , but love is a human emotion for us it's instinct we do not have to learn like you do

I.N: well I've learned to love you , I can feel it

Y/n: ok well we can talk about it more when I see you again , we will go over everything and get that heated system installed

I.N: ok thank you, see you soon Y/n

Y/n: good bye I.N

I said shutting him off , immediately the team came rushing through to clean everything up and I went to my office a little overwhelmed by the test

S: you okay ?

Y/n: yes

S: well he works so that's great !

Y/n: it's bittersweet, he would have to leave

S: you don't love him back do you ?
He asked in shocked but I shut it down

Y/n: ofc not seungmin, I just worked really hard on this and very sentimental so it's important to me . I'm not ready to let it go yet

S: well I'm still gonna be here for you after he leaves, your my friend y/n don't forget

Y/n: thank you seungmin, you're ready to go?

S: yes lemme go grab the soju

He said running off , once we left the office we walked straight into the cemetery

S: those are really nice flowers

Y/n: thank you , they were the same ones in his moms garden he used to bring me one every week

I said replacing the old ones with the new and cleaned up the stone while seungmin set up the picnic

Y/n: happy birthday Jeongin , I miss you

S: happy 21st bro I got you something

He said getting his extra bottle of soju and putting it near the flowers making me laugh

Y/n: thanks for always coming with me seungmin , ik you two would be friends

S: anytime Y/n , I know this is hard sometimes and I want to be there for you

Y/n: I appreciate it , I love you

S: ewww

He said fake gagging making me slap his arm

S: ouch I was joking I love you too

We sat there until the sun started
setting , we said our goodbyes and left
