Flashback from Chapter forty three

"She's gone mad since Stafford, since what she did there." Anna adds on, her heart making a painful tug. William turns to her, his left brow furrowed. "What she did?" He asked, and when she doesn't deem his question worthy enough tho answer, he turns back to the sky.

"You don't know what she did. Do you?"

Tommy didn't flinch but it irked him that even after all the investigating, he still couldn't figure it out.

How Anna had appeared to the red-haired lady's home in a maids outfit with blood on it, and was presumably mute.

They were in the hallway to the courtroom, Tommy was waiting for Anna to come out the bathroom. The trial was a success and Anna was legally responsible for herself.

"I don't think Athena even knows what she's done." Tommy thought it was odd that he called her Athena, because he had never legally changed her name, it remained Anna. But it was fitting.

"She believes it was Eden, her adoptive sister. She'd convinced herself it was her. You don't take me as a reader so I'll explain this. They call it repressed memory; it occurs when trauma is too severe to be kept in conscious memory, and is removed by repression or dissociation or both."

It was strange to Tommy how they held no physical similarities yet they were exact fucking same person. They spoke the same way, albeit he had a posher accent, and his voice was deeper but still the way they phrase their sentences was all too similar. They had the same mannerisms, the same furrow of their brows, they even squint their eyes when making a point.
