child-like

the child-like understanding of the world is an understanding that isn't hindered by hatred and hurt

the ability to scream and cry and express pain,
the ability to have unconditional love for people,
the ability to have hope and desire for the future,

is an ability to see a filterless world
being able to perceive people's actions without an assumption of negative intentions,
and take kindness to heart—

i dream of being able to cry and scream and really feel what im feeling,
and not try to overshadow or distract from my struggles.

unfortunately, i've learned that nothing good comes from that;
the words nuisance and difficult ring in my ears:

did 6 year old me have to learn to say goodbye without being outwardly sad?
did 8 year old me have to know the feeling of being left out?
did 10 year old me have to feel forgotten?
did 12 year old me have to learn the consequences of being myself?
did 14 year old me have to learn to deal with heartbreak alone?
did 16 year old me have to cope with suicidal thoughts on my own?

—to be able to feel negative feelings
is to be child-like,
and unfortunately,
i grew up too quick.
