Their paths seemed to intersect at the most inconvenient times, as if the universe itself was testing her resolve. He approached, his jog slowing to a walk, then to a standstill before her. His eyes held a glimmer of the past, reflecting the image of the woman he still loved. "Ian," she greeted him, her voice laced with a discomfort that mirrored the unease in her stomach. She hadn't anticipated this premature confrontation.

Considering their planned meeting later that day, she contemplated the idea of addressing everything now, to rip off the proverbial bandage. She had anticipated anger to be the dominant emotion during their conversation, but instead, she found herself feeling indifferent, detached. The realization dawned on her that she had truly moved on, and this final exchange was as much for her own closure as it was for his.

Ian's face was hopeful, yet lined with the stress of their past. "I know we were supposed to talk later, but let's just do it now. I want to give you the closure you're looking for Ian, and in doing so, I hope to find closure for myself." His face, etched with worry and an anxious hope, looked up in surprise. "Fatima, I thought we'd have more time to." "To what? Rehearse a more palatable version of the truth?" she interrupted briskly. The past hurt pricked at her, as it sometimes did, despite the healing that distance and a new, committed relationship had brought her.

Ian struggled to find the right words, his hands clasping and unclasping together. "You just left me, Fatima," he finally managed, his gaze searching for whatever remnants of their connection might remain. "I came home, and you were gone. You didn't even give me a chance to explain."
Her laugh was short "Explain what exactly, Ian. How you managed to father a child with a so called friend and hide it from me for three years. Explain that you cheated again after the last time nearly broke us. How could I ever trust you again, or believe a single word you say. Tell me, What explanation could you possibly have gave to make any of that remotely excusable."

"We were engaged, Fatima," he shot back with a plea that brushed the surface of desperation. "You've been gone a whole year, with no contact, nothing! We planned a whole life together!" "We were going to have a family." You left a week before our wedding, before we were meant to embark on our journey as husband and wife. How do you expect me to move on from that. How can you be so willing to throw away seven years of our life together. You know me better than anyone on this earth Fatima." Ian's voice cracked with emotion.

"Yet you still lied to me, Ian. To me!" She insisted, pausing to gesture towards herself, emphasizing the personal betrayal. "I confronted you about the situation, fully aware of the truth. And you looked me straight in the face and denied it all." "It wasn't the mistake itself that hurt me the most, but your decision to deceive me afterwards. How could you expect me to stay and proceed with the wedding?" Her words held a mix of disappointment and hurt, as she struggled to comprehend his actions. The fact that you could look me in my eyes and lie so easily, after everything we've been through, that killed me Ian.

"I know and I'm so sorry, Tima. Tears welled up in his eyes as his voice cracked, "I didn't know the child was mine. That's why I didn't tell you. It was only after she finally agreed to a paternity test that I found out the truth. By then, I was lost and didn't know how to tell you. I couldn't bear to break your heart." His voice was a hoarse whisper as his tears cascaded down his cheeks, I was scared, and I made a mistake. I regret it til this day but i'm begging you to find it in your heart to forgive me." You just up and left me Fatima." "We could have worked through it together as a family." He responded desperately, as if the weight of their shared history would balance the scales of his deception. "You just left," Ian murmured, his voice laced with an undercurrent of pain and confusion.
